@Zardoc Here you go buddy, but as I said in my original post, because of the complex pattern on the folder it doesn't look very good at small sizes.

Lucas, the old folk like me don't use high res and small icons so everything looks

Elaborate I know, just can't help myself of late, my folders get weirder each time I make them.
The only problem with such a complex pattern on the folders is that anything less than 256 px and they start to lose definition.
Feedback good or bad is always appreciated.

I'll refrain from the absolute *first* thing that popped in my mind, let's just say that I've been slacking on the spring cleaning of my dirty mind!

But, I gotta say - the variations in shading and colors, as if it is an actual fabric with 'lumps' or 'humps' in it, thus reflecting light differently in different ares, is pure genius!

Gradients I've been playing with, screenshot doesn't do them justice because of compression on the forum I'm guessing.

Wow, those are some beautiful gradients, man. I have my favs out of all of them, but cannot say I dislike a single one. Even burn coffee (and as a coffee connesieur, the very ideaof burning coffee in any manner, fashion, or form is offending, yet that color gradient is quite beautiful).

@johnlgalt , Not sure what you were seeing in those Leopard folder images John, I had to go back and look a little closer
and for just a 'Brief' second I actually thought I could see the 'lumps / humps' also.
Strange how the mind works sometime when someone plants a thought in your head.

Here's what I see (on a 4K monitor that has Windows 11 HDR enabled):



The contrast of the green interior of the spots with darker spots, on left, and lighter, brighter spots, on the right, give the surface a wavy when you look at the contrasting colors, plus the interspersed gold color between the spots also is lighter in certain areas, and darker in others, lending to a perception of the 'fabric' rising and falling, thus creating lighting-based shadow effects.

I hope that explained it well enough - think of a fabric that is not stretched flat, but has air pockets under some parts, making it rise above the flat plane that it is lying on, and lighting coming in from an angle casting shadows on the mounds that are not flat.

And don't worry - I'm not complaining, I say that effect, even if not intended, is absolutely beautiful!

it wasn't intended but a closer examination truly does highlight the finer points, I must explore this option further.

Actually, I bet that any decent monitor that supports HDR will do, as Windows 11 "Auto HDR" setting turns it on even when doing simple things like web browsing - it's blast, to be sure.

In looking at the image I captured on the other monitor, and older 1080p monitor with no HDR capability, I can clearly see a difference - it doesn't have that fabric look to it, yes, there are still lighter and darker parts, but it doesn't look like an actual piece of fabric that is not sitting flat on a surface. But on the HDR enabled 4K monitor it really, really does look like a real piece of fabric.

I think that is one of the reasons that all of these icons from you, David Kimball, and everyone else have looked so beautiful - that HDR setting really makes things pop on this monitor.

Little too much gradient back folder IMO , I would stay with the same color light blue but less gradient but none the less , these folders look tough!

Is this how it's supposed to be? All the other desktop icons have some sort of image.
At least in Windows 10, there was a little icon of a person on it.

This has to do with the fact that you're viewing the folder at a smaller size. For whatever reason, some of the default folder icons in Windows 11 only have a unique design at any size larger than the 64x64 size. In other words, if anything other than the 256 version of the icon gets used, it will show a default, standard folder icon. Not sure why, but they just didn't bother making smaller versions of it in the .ICO file and resort to using default imagery. Hopefully this gets fixed in the final version of 11.

I suspected it to be another bug. At least you confirmed it.
I even tried going from small to medium sized desktop icons, and that still didn't fix it.
Even so, there is no way that I need medium desktop icons. They're huge.

There are still a few bugs not addressed and maybe won't be.
Microsoft seem to be more intent on rushing the release than fixing the bugs.
