Solved Empty Recycle Bin "button" gone from Recycle Bin window

I'm leaning toward @glasskuter's suspicion now. I think the Preview took Empty away, and it may or may not come back later. AND ... wait for it ... the three dots on the other machine produce a menu that does not include Empty!! I think the Preview moved the Empty to the three dots and removed it from the command bar, and "that," said John, "is that." We'll see what happens this Tuesday.

I'm running the Canary builds and run Power Start Menu and have tabs enabled and Empty Recycle bin shows if there are files in it. I do have a off topic question. Do you know why there is a Date Deleted listed?

i assume you tried the scaling then? its def. a glitch and it doesnt know the size of your explorer window

I assume it's so I know when I deleted said item from the desktop or wherever.
Someone at MS probably thought that was a need to know thing?

Maybe it's useful when trying to "recover" deleted items after the Recycle Bin has been emptied?
Lots of files I delete have the same name, like image1.jpg, so the Date deleted would help to sort through them?

You can right click any of the column headings and change what column headings are showing.

@Winuser: right-click just beside an item in the columns-names (like Date Deleted) and you'll see a menu with ticks. UN-tick Date Deleted, and say goodbye to it.

Well, I'll be gobsmacked! That was IT!!! All I had to do was drag one edge of the RB window horizontally a tad, and SHAZAM! I had Empty back! I'm truly sorry I caused all this commotion by making that window too narrow, but who knew??

It's another example of that... "make everything fit on a phone" mentality, that has gripped MS since Windows 8.

After the days of the old CRT monitors, I got a DELL U3011 (30"). My eyes adjusted no problem.
And my eyes are seriously challenged.

I do indeed still have the default Empty options available for the Recycle Bin.

I think you're may be right. I noticed that there is a dropdown menu that allows you to select a date deleted. I selected the 15'th and the file was deleted as soon as I closed the menu. I'm going to run Recuva and see what it finds.

Thanks! I checked and it can be removed. I'm guessing that MS included it so that if one wants, they can change the date so the file would be easier to find and recover.

MS just doesn't want to give up on that one OS for all devices. If they are that determined then they should bring back the Windows Phones. IMHO, they put my Android phones to shame.

You can sleep peacefully. Even if MS did get back into the cell phone business, Android and Apple will always dominate the market.

@Ghot: Back when I was editing serious books for a decade or so, I used a three-monitor setup in a right-facing, front-facing, left-facing array. Had to have the manuscript open on the center one, the bibliography on the right, and browser research and fact-checking on the left all the time. But each screen was 22 inches back then, and I never had to look at more than one at a time. Now that life is more leisurely, I'm happy with just the one, and I hardly ever use anything in full-screen mode, not even my browser. 'Course, my small File Explorer window was what caused all that kerfuffle last night, and a bunch of you graciously showed up and helped me find my silly mistake: the window wasn't wide enough to accommodate everything. And nobody even made fun of me for my ignorance! What a bunch!

@Wisewiz I said I'd report back. 23H2 did not change mine. I still have 'Empty Recycle Bin' on toolbar. However, if the recycle bin is empty, that option does not appear.
