Dayna was offered a set of instructions to follow and so far they’re doing OK. Patience. The next on the list is in fact, an in-place upgrade.

Dayna, if that fails, try running each of these commands in an elevated command prompt. One at a time.

In Windows search, type CMD (Command Prompt) and right click on the result, choose “Run As Admin”

The command Window looks like this:

View attachment 126616

Copy and paste, (Click each line below to auto copy to the clipboard) into the Command window and press enter.

(One at a time — press Enter after entering each line)

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start msiserver
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits

Then, in the elevated command window, do the same with these lines (one at a time)

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Now the last one, again in the elevated command window

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto

Reboot your PC

Hi,

I have this error, and I have looked at people's instructions of how they repaired their problem, but I need instruction for dummies. The computer is so terribly slow.
I ran Tuneup but it took me to the Windows 10 forum to post, please refer to the link.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.

20250226

Hi Gentlemen,
Forgive me in advance, but I did specify instructions for dummies.
I realised last night after logging in on my mobile that critical details were not displayed or I didn't see on my PC feed.
I am now doing the Tuneup scan, #10.
It seems to always stop between 55% - 66% for hours.
Please bare with me and I will post the link once finished.
What is an in place upgrade repair please?

Hi, Dayna

If you need to repair or create a new recovery partition or having problems with the Windows 11 operating system on your PC, and the usual solutions will not fix it, you can do a repair install of Windows 11 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything.

It’s basically replacing the OS with the same version etc that you already have, it “should” also install any updates? (Can’t remember)

As your system is compatible with Windows 11, it should be easy for you to use Option One in the tutorial.

This will download and install a repair version of the OS. This operation reinstalls the OS that you have and will not remove any files, settings, or apps.

Read this through once, then follow the steps when you know what to do

Do I reply in the reply part or the quote part?

If you want to reply to a quote, you can reply under the quote, but you seem to be doing fine?

Re the backup; I am refering to an OS backup using something like Hasleo <— (tutorial) or Macrium onto a secondary or external drive in case of an OS failure, so you can restore the OS back to a state before your system failed

No, I have never done anything like that.

Well, kind of but NO

If you create a system image now, you will be preserving the state that your current system is in

However…

It’s better to get the system back to the state that it currently is, than it is to have no option at all to revert back to this current state.

Better to have something to revert to, than having to reinstall Windows.
