or insert this into boot.wim image 2\windows\system32

winpeshl.ini

[LaunchApp]
AppPath="%SystemDrive%\sources\setup.exe"

unzip the 2.zip and there will be a folder called 2

rt click the folder called 2 and select "add to archive" from 7-zip context menu

select wim in the dropdown

browse to boot.wim

click ok

That will add winpeshl.ini to the correct location inside boot.wim without faffling about mounting.

Alternatively any files/folders can be added to a wim using wimlib commands.

Could be done with 7-zip commands as well, but I am too lazy to look them up.

John, if you are simply performing a manual installation (not unattended setup), then on the third screen into setup you will see this screen where you can choose to run the previous version of setup:

Or am I misunderstanding what you are looking for?

I could possibly be wrong about this, but the first screen is only asking for the language as well as the time and currency format. The second screen simply gets the keyboard info. I don't think that is any different than the original setup so I guess that this technically IS still the original setup (or at least the same exact thing).

My guess is that this is why you are not given a opportunity to select the previous version of setup until this point because you are not actually running the "new" setup until you get to this point.

Wrong. It’s an “upgrade” Setup. It’s functionally the same as the in-place upgrade Setup.

If you pick the legacy option, it runs the other Setup process in its place This isn’t like an overlay. Two different Setup’s, two different supported behaviors.

Garlin, maybe I didn't make clear what I meant. I was trying to say that I wondered if the new setup doesn't kick in until the 3rd screen. Again, I fully admit that I'm not sure but I don't see the point of switching to the previous setup BEFORE that third screen where it offers to run the previous setup.

The running Modern client exits when you pick the option on the 3rd screen, and execs the old client. I demonstrated this in the original thread by running Process Explorer, and looking at process tree.

You know how everyone suggests to do “setup /product server” to bypass requirements, it’s basically doing the same thing on its own.

My Guess is that this is not available, there is no way one can choose to do this ! Is there a part of the AutoUnattend.xml that tells Windows that you want to do this? or a batch file? possibly to display 1,2 or all 3 of these screens?? John

If the question is "can I switch between the two versions of Setup from the unattended file", the answer is No. You need to modify boot.wim, either by editing the reg value for CmdLine or providing a different setup.exe command line in winpeshl.ini.

Unattended mode will cause new Setup to never show the option to revert to old Setup. That's only available in manual installs.

High End Old school system I picked up this year for $200.00 CA. It plays most average games without overclocking. Also some AAA Titles with the System optimized. Most time I run the GPU undervolted and reduced clock speeds and the Cpu at a reduced speed to keep gaming temps down. My average FPS are Between 60 and 85. Temps CPU 35 and GPU 40. Normal gaming settings CPU is Around 45 degrees C and the GPU is around 50 degrees C. FPS up to 85. V-sync turned Off. Games played are American Truck Simulator Plague Innocence and Plague Requiem Horizon Zero Dawn Balders Gate 3 DreamFall Chapters Final Cut. No gaming issues.
Forgive me, but I'm not understanding the desire to run the previous setup rather than the new one? What exactly does that buy you over using the new setup? I'd just like to know for my own reference because surely I must be missing something here.
