My ISP most likely supports only 1000 Mbps, but Windows should show 2500 anyway.
What is the issue here. I am asking for the future reference. Better to solve it now. :whistle:

Your router only support 1Gbps or you have a cable that isn't stable at more than that speed.

Also if you are connected directly to the ISP and they only support max 1Gbps on their end, then that is the speed that will be negotiated.

No. It shows what is negotiated between the devices.

The slower of the 2 device speeds will always be negotiated.

Upgrading your LAN cards on your computers to let's say...10Gbps is useless if your switch or router only support 1Gbps speed.

As was noted, the speed shown is the negotiated speed, not the speed that it is capable of.

As a test, do this: Simply connect the Ethernet card of one PC with a 2.5Gbps adapter directly to another PC with a 2.5Gbps adapter. You should now see a 2.5Gbps connection. At least this will prove that they are capable of negotiating and running at 2.5Gbps.

More Information: Adapters of 1Gbps and higher are capable of automatically connecting directly between two machines with no switch needed and no special crossover cable needed. They will figure that out and make the connection automagically.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

I have a Wireless Router that supports 1Gigabit Ethernet and both 2G and 5G Wireless, has absolutely no effect on my 25Mbps Wireless DSL service and its POE Modem. My ISP service is on a different commercial power company [couple miles away] and when a storm knocks out their service [not long] I don't lose my LAN, just the Internet. The first diagnostic my ISP asks me to do when having an issue is to plug the Modem's Ethernet cable directly into a computer, bypassing the Router/LAN [fortunately it's not often]. All but one of my computers that support 5G have no issue but on one Notebook the 5G drops to about half the Internet speed while the 2G retains the full speed so I use an USB Wireless dongle to correct that issue.

What specific router are you using? To connect at higher than 1 g speeds the network card on your PC needs to connect to a multi-gig LAN port on your router. While many newer routers will have a multi-gig WAN port they may or may not have any multi-gig LAN ports.

    I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.
Berton, you are correct, it does not make Internet access any faster. However, I've made the switch 100% now to 2.5Gbps Ethernet in my home because I transfer large files around (sometimes multiple TBs of data at a time). In fact, as we speak, I have a 14 TB transfer in progress :-). But I'm also getting really good wireless speeds. On WiFi 6e I can get 180 MB/s real world sustained (well above what Gb Ethernet can do), so I cannot wait to convert to WiFi 7. It might be every bit as good or even better than my 2.5Gbps Ethernet.

As an alternative, you could connect multiple Gb connections to get higher throughput. For example, I have multiple Mini PCs that have 2 x 1Gb ports. I was connecting both at the same time and getting 2Gbps total throughput. Be aware that this only works if there is no bottleneck in the path that will reduce you down to 1Gbps. However, doing that on a bunch of systems made me run out of switch ports so I switched over to real 2.5Gbps adapters.

    The five 8TB drives and three 512GB SSDs are part of a DrivePool using StableBit DrivePool software. The three SSDs are devoted purely to caching for the 8TB drives. All of the important data is stored in triplicate so that I can withstand simultaneous failure of 2 disks.

I have 1 GB fiber service that connects to my garage/laundry room. I have a 2.5GB switch there that I used CAT6 to the opposite end of the house where I also have another 2.5GB switch. Both switches show 2.5GB speed (blue light) for D-link indicators. Ports connected to computers are still 1GB, but I am thinking?? it is 2.5GB between the switches. Minimal speed gain but I am in prep phase when upgrading to machines that have 2.5GB ports on them. My isp advertises 500, 1, 2.5 and 8 GB. I chose 1GB because it is the "sweet spot" speed vrs cost.

Might add, my isp is currently using WiFi 6 Mesh routers and they are in the process of further upgrading to WiFi 7.
