And what to do if you dont have TPM at all ( no 1.2 or 2.0 ) ?
btw; I did upgrade from 10 to 11 , somehow ..........only , when trying a repair on 11 ( with software , etc, intact ) , I get an error and the repair cant be done !!

You can bypass the requirements on a clean install, but an In-Place upgrade, might not work if you don't meet the requirements.

If your computer doesn't meet the requirements, I would do a clean install, then make a full backup with Macrium Reflect.
Macrium doesn't care about TPM or Secure Boot.

In other words, I wouldn't count on In-Place upgrades, working on your computer.

But you should have no problems with clean installs, or restoring from a backup.

Seems to be the case , indeed !
Very good to know ..........so you have to roll back to 10 , for an In-Place upgrade .
Did not find anything about this repair-problem in these forums ............
Wonder if there could be a fix , to get it work still !

This is what I would do...

1. Do a clean install with the bypass TPM and Secure Boot method.
2. Immediately make a full backup.
3. Then do things like install any updates, install programs, do personalizations.
4. Then make a new full backup.
5. In the future, make a new full backup before and then after, any major changes.
6. ONLY count on the backup software, to fix any problems.

At this point in time, I don't think there IS a "fix" that will allow an In-Place upgrade to work on a Windows 11 install, on a comp that doesn't meet the Windows 11 requirements.
In-Place upgrades should work on Windows 10, ofc.
And they should work on Windows 11 on comps that DO meet the Win 11 requirements.

You can do a clean install of Windows 11 using the method that @zbook linked.
Then you will need to rely ONLY on backup software, for future repairs.

There may be some way to DO an In-Place Upgrade on Win 11 on a comp that doesn't support Win 11.
But I haven't seen or heard of anyone doing it.

You MAY be the first one that has tried it.

This is exactly what I do since I have 11 ( now three weeks already ) , always did , with 11 even more backups !
In the mean time a working fix might arrive , so can get our In-Place repair in 11 also ( like we could in 10 )

That MAY happen, I don't know. Someone may come up with a way to do that.

The problem seems to be, that we need to make registry or file changes to be able to install Win 11 on non-supportive machines.
An In-Place Upgrade is supposed to "fix" Windows. It's probably erasing (fixing), those changes,
which then causes the In-Place Upgrade to fail. Because now it "sees" that the computer is incompatible.
This is all just a guess, ofc.

So far, you are the 1st person I've seen, that tried to do an In-Place Upgrade to Windows 11 on an incompatible machine.

There was a thread in EF in which someone had reported that they had used an old Windows 10 iso version and was able to upgrade from 10 to 11.
Whether it could be reproduced was unknown.

Upgrading from 10 to 11 , on an " incompatible PC " seems to be no problem anymore .

A new problem appeared , after the upgrade , how (?) to do an inplace-repair ( with software, etc. keeping intact , just the way we can in 10 ) , on this " incompatible PC " with 11 installed...........

Never looked but I would imagine the options are still there to refresh install
You'll likely have to repeat the process to disable checks again.

There is, and I have done it.

To upgrade an unsupported machine, run the Setup from within Windows. Make sure you do NOT let it check online for updates. When it gets to the 'failure' screen open File Explorer.....

.....go to C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources and delete appraiserres.dll. You will need to show hidden items to be able to see it.

Now click the Back button in Windows 11 Setup, then click the Next button. NB: if you had let it check online the Back button would be unavailable.

Did you not see my post #254? That's from my System Two test machine, incompatible in every respect (CPU, TPM, Legacy bios, MBR install). Just to prove the point, I have now let that in-place upgrade run to completion.

It completed the in-place repair upgrade, kept all the installed apps and files, and is running fine. I'm posting this from it. You can see from the fact that 'Go back' is available that I have just successfully completed an upgrade.

Hi,
Think you did something wrong
MS did release an update to stop check edits but easiest way is to disconnect from the internet before mounting the 11 iso if you forget to change the way updates installed that is otherwise the new update will kill the Back button even if you delete the app... checks folder.

@pietcorus2, There was 3 ways to inplace-upgrade Windows 11.

1. Deleting the \$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\appraiserres.dll

2. Replacing the Windows 10 install.[wim/esd] to a Windows 11 install.[wim/esd]

3. Deleting the appraiserres.dll file in the Win11 ISO Sources folder
