I think once it's connected to the internet somehow, it downloads other drivers that it doesn't have - based on what happened last time. So I tried installing the chipset drivers. No difference. There was a second wifi/lan driver on the manufacturer page for a different wifi card, but I tried that anyway. Now I get next door's printer as well as their wifi networks lol! But not my printer or networks.

I think I'll wait for the ethernet adapter.

Thanks. Done that. No difference!
Ok. So done with that.
Next is your wifi router. Did you restart your wifi router and/or modem?
Clearly there's nothing wrong with your PC if it detects other network. It's probably your own internet/wifi network that has an issue.

Maybe. Except this laptop was fine with the wifi on Windows 10. It's not supported for Windows 11 - so it's something to do with Windows 11/compatibility I think. If I can get connected by ethernet in the next day or so, I can see what happens then. Last time, once I got connected to some kind of internet, a load of updates seemed to sort it and then it could see the wifi.

any PC running any OS can have issue with internet. And resetting the router is usually a basic troubleshooting procedure.

You're probably right that I should look at doing something at the router end. I'm a bit loathe to do that since setting up starlink and having two routers and working all that out! I just like to leave it alone ha ha. I don't really understand how the Starlink works. It has it's own router which isn't very configurable and is just plug in and go. Attached to it is our previous Asus broadband router to provide extended coverage and guest networks. If it was just the broadband router I'd try something because I was familiar with that. But as it's not the main router I am not quite sure what I'm doing! Also, as I've had a previous experience with this same issue on this same laptop with Windows 11, previously it eventually recognised wifi once updates were downloaded and installed - so I'm going with trying to connect to ethernet first and let Windows do the updates. Except I need to wait for an ethernet adapter to arrive.

After reading these posts, I'm going to say it's your router /modem setup.
Whatever you've got right now isn't cutting it.
Go out and get yourself a brand new router without anything extra hooked up to it.

Just posted above about that :-) Nothing wrong with either router. It took me ages to get the Asus router working with the Starlink one so I'm loathe to tinker with it as it's all working perfectly well with all other computers, smart devices etc. And I don't want to have to start re-setting Alexa, ring doorbells etc as well. I'd be messing about for days! Although I may have to if ethernet doesn't do it.

Success! Sort of. It can't just be the router because it wouldn't recognise my mobile network either. Then I remembered that last time I set it up on Windows 11, three years ago, and it recognised my mobile hot spot - I had a different phone. So I dug out my old phone - and yes, it appeared in the list of connections! (my current phone doesn't).

So I'm connected with a little Iphone SE 2016 (1st gen). LOL. It seems old hardware only talks to old hardware. Will update when updates are done, as to whether it then recognises my wifi.

There's nothing wrong restarting your router/modem. It doesn't mean resetting it to factory setting. In fact, it will just re-establish itself and your devices will re-establish connection and your speed will be faster for sure. It is the most simple and basic, no-brainer troubleshooting procedure to fix network issues. We are not gonna ask you to do it if it is gonna complicate anything. But really, it is just like unplugging and plugging in a phone charger and let it do it's thing.

It's still downloading windows updates - no restart yet, but some have completed and the laptop can now see my wifi. Trying to work out which update achieved this. There are a few updates that look like Intel Firmware.

Just recording this in case anyone else tries to install on the same laptop (HP Spectre X360 13-4007na)

These are the completed updates so far, so it's one of these that allowed the wifi to be found:

Update for Windows Security Platform KB5007651 (Version 10.0.27703.1006)
HP Development Company LP - System 7.0.22.3
2023-11 Update for Windows 11 Versions 23H2 for x64 based systems (KB4023057)
Intel Corporation Bluetooth 20.100.7.1
Intel - net - 9/3/2018 12.00:00AM 18.33.14.3 (Note: this is a wifi driver not available on the HP site or Intel site - later than the one from first install)
Intel Corporation System 10/27/2016 12.00:00AM 1.1.1.22
HP HIDClass 5/10/2018 12.00:00AM 2.1.4.1
Cumulative update for .NET framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11 version 23H2 for x64 (note - not sure if this completed before or after wifi appeared)

It would seem fairly logical that it's the later wifi driver that did the trick but I suspect it was a combination of things, including firmware. Most of those updates aren't on the HP Driver page. I also think it might have needed the .net framework update for the driver to work (as one of the other drivers I tried said it needed a .net framework update).

It used between 4.5 to 5gb of mobile date before I could connect to wifi.

I now need to ask @Ghot how to extract all these drivers and save them for future use (@Ghot you told me once before and I've forgotten! Also will it also extract the firmware?)

I guess using an old iphone was the equivalent to using an old router maybe.

Go here and download the zip file. Releases · lostindark/DriverStoreExplorer

Unzip it and run it. It will find all your drivers, and give you the option to delete superceded drivers.

From its file menu select export all drivers.

I'm still running this around in my head how the default Win10 drivers will work with your laptop but the Win11 drivers will not. According to the screenshot you posted above of the Network Devices your network hardware shows no Bang symbol meaning it "should" be working properly. Yet for some reason it doesn't seem to be able to see your current wifi radios.
One other thing you may try for device driver updates it to install the "Intel Drivers and Support Assistant." With this tool you can download the latest Intel drivers for your device(s) and save them for later usage.
Also as mentioned you can simply get one of those USB to Ethernet adapters and you that for ethernet connectivity while the wifi drivers get updated.
I would still be curious if there are some settings in the Win11 internet that would/might allow the wifi device to be able to properly see your current wifi devices.? Or the Wifi devices own settings to make them visible.

@Hazel123

Did you try briefly turning off the WPA/WEP security od does your laptop not even 'see' the wifi from your router?

Thanks. The issue was that the install didn't have the firmware and latest wifi driver so couldn't connect to our wifi router (but might have connected to an older type wifi router). I did send for an ethernet adapter but before that arrived I used an old iphone and mobile data to connect. Info above about the updates installed that allowed the wifi to then become available.

The wifi driver now installed is not one that seems to be available either on the HP driver site for this model or on Intel where it says it's obsolete or something. But I'm going to have a look around on google as surely if Windows can install it, it must be available somewhere.

@Hazel123

Did you try briefly turning off the WPA/WEP security od does your laptop not even 'see' the wifi from your router?
The laptop can see/connect to the wifi now - see above :-) But no I didn't do anything with the router in the end. I think it simply couldn't see a newer router and only old hardware, because the wifi driver was so old.
