Everything was solved by installing the latest Ghost Specture Windows 10 Lite (Windows 10 still sucks without a condom, but I'm guessing even the fool version of Windows of 10 would be more stable than this nonsense)

For a more stable and pleasant PC experience stick with Windows 10. That's what Microsoft should have done.

Not had one of those problems you mention

When vista was first released, it was a PITA; It would lose the USB AND the WIFI frequently, However, once the SR was released, it became one of the best OSes MS ever released. It was better by yards than ME, and ( for me at least ) XP. Windows 7 was an improvement, and still up there at the apex of MS OSes. 10 has been pretty stable on all my machines, and I just upgraded to 11, no problems yet,

I started specifying laptops for engineering use back last century and power has always been a limiting factor - batteries in use have improved a lot over the forty plus years I have been involved

But ...

There is a general power issue with most High end laptops - mostly due to the battery technology available not being up to the job of powering the systems that users demand. the battery is incapable of powering the hardware at full performance, so the system is set to run at a limited level that gives "an acceptable battery life". It is getting to a point that laptops are more of a portable than a mobile device - You carry it with you and plug it in when you want to use it.

It gets even worse I run a Dell XPS17 9700 for portable use now this is supplied with a 130W power supply - which I think is the highest available, (it was when I purchased it), If I set the laptop to run windows 10 at full performance when plugged in to 240V AC mains It will drain the battery in a few hours !! the mains adaptor is not enough to fully power the device so uses the battery as a top up supply.

Now this is a high end system and is ideal for it's purpose ( Portable Landscape image editing) - it runs a 3840 x2400 4K HDR 10 Touchscreen for long enough review / edit a day's images in the hotel room, and has other options for power than full

That is strange. I actually get the same web page as you. So where is the promised BIOS update, you may wonder?
I double checked with their GTR PRO 3550H, and there was a BIOS update listed under the BIOS and Tools tab.
FPTw64.exe is an Intel file (Intel Flash Programming Tool) - so they provide you the Tool, but not the actual needed BIOS
I would be tempted to go back to them and ask when is the promised BIOS file going to appear on the downloads page?
They really should not advertise the fact if no such update exists, for that model ...

My first PC was the original IBM PC in 1981. I upgraded through all the Windows you mention, and I agree.

More than two weeks in to W11 and I haven't had any problems either.

I can edit 4K video in DaVinci Resolve and never drop a frame.
Microsoft Visual Studio never seems to slow down when working.
For what I do, I've not noticed any kind of power issue with my Asus.

However, if I'm on battery, it's a horse of a different feather.

I have found these useable for laptops that do not include a slight Tilt. and also I have them fitted to my Wacom Tablets, and even a Loopdek+ edit console


Self adhesive and unobtrusive when fitted - they do give a very slight angle when closed in addition to the "Higher setting"

A computing device (including PC) is conglomerate of 3 major unavoidable pats, Hardware, OS and software. All have to be perfectly in sync for it to work properly. At the beginning, all was much more simpler, having very few combinations to contend with. Things got complicated FAAAAST, Too fast for single human an even large groups of humans to comprehend fully.
Nowadays, with literary hundreds of thousands combinations of above 3 mentioned things, a small change in each one can produce unexpected consequences, so expecting first/one shot perfection is illusory. Some user input for settings to sync everything is required or user is at a mercy of somebody not necessarily having same needs and wants. That also requires some knowledge.

Windows 10 - and presumably Windows 11 has approximately 50 Million Lines of Code, a high proportion of which are related to make hardware work with the OS. (this does not include the low level Drivers ).

I am surprised that we do not see a lot more issues than we do ... if you want a trouble free computing experience look at the mid level and up, pre specified devices as these are not so cheap that cutting corners are likely. and have good quality components, and should be fully tested before dispatch to the user.

Yes these systems will be more expensive, but if you cost your own time spent putting right faults on a chep unit the costs are comparable - and likely cheaper on the higher grade devices over their lifetime of use

Moral issues that seem clear in abstract discussions are unfortunately rarely clear in real life. Let me give you a real life example - and given that most people on this forum are, say, above 30 , most everyone is familiar with it.

Suppose you need some medicine and your doctor gives you a prescription. What will you get - an "original" product (as in produced by the company that developed it) or a "generic" (as in made cheaply in India or wherever)? Apparently the law limits the patent protection on medicine (by 25 years or something) exactly because the original owners of that intellectual property set high prices. If you were 100% right, this would not be allowed. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you here, I wish generics were never allowed to exist, however, this is "in the public interest". As a result, trying to get "original" medicine is a fight, at least in Germany.

Now, in contrast, property rights on things like music are protected by about a 100 years, such that grandchildren of the original songwriter may live happily without ever lifting a finger. If anyone can explain to me how is that morally acceptable, then maybe I will consider buying a CD. I do not steal, but I do disagree with these laws and hence I do not support the music industry with my money.

In end effect, we all have to comply with the laws. However, it's a bit naive to think that laws are always based on some high moral standard, whatever that is, and not simply a result of successful lobbying by one industry or another.

The whole crux of this matter is that Elevenforum.com have clear rules of membership. In this case they were broken, although the user was made aware of the issue they did nothing to correct it, and so as stated were banned from the forum.

As someone who is on 17-20+ medications a day, (luckily I live in Wales where essential medication is free), I also understand something of the pharmaceutical industry, having been involved in system design for the industry. The way I understand the licencing the initial licencing includes a built in and agreed percentage of the sell price to cover the immense cost of development and testing of the pharmaceuticals.when the agreed licence period is complete others can produce the medication, also on Licence for quality control - supply and demand economics then take over and prices are set by the market, actual quality control is by international and National agencies to ensure the quality is the same as the original

As for the music industry this is based on the previous data industries such as Books and the copyright was always for the life time of the Author / composer of the work and collected in various ways ( the music industry collects a lot in licencing playback in public of copyright materials, by Radio/TV/ clubs/and DJs with a smaller total amount from CD / MP3 sales to the public - recording artists often get more money from the playback licence than the Sale of media, where most of the money is for the distributors

The membership rules are crystal clear and not up to debate. I was simply surprised by the length of this thread based on the quality of the initial post, especially with the OP being banned by the time I got to see it and after only two posts altogether.

However, any discussion of property rights reminds me of the fact that any time I go to the pharmacy, say to get a fever syrup for my kids, I have to have a discussion since the free version provided by the insurance is simply ineffective and I need to pay to get the original. In most cases the cost is minimal anyway, so what really annoys me is the discussion itself rather then the fact that I have to pay. The problem is that licensing terms being what they may, generics often don't work as well and have more side effects than the originals, while providing the manufacturers with hefty profits based on someone else's intellectual property. But apparently the need to provide medicine to vast numbers of people overrules all such concerns.

In the case of music, what you said is exactly the point - CD sales are not very important to artists or rather, more important to distributors than to artists. As a result, most often it's the distributors who sue poor sods who'd downloaded a song or two illegally and slap them with ridiculous fines. And that's exactly why I don't buy CDs (I don't download anything either, there's more than enough "free" music around).

Anyway, this thread shold have been put to rest long time ago.

It's long been forum policy to not forcibly close threads but rather treat them as a more organic thing.

Obviously if they degenerate to pure arguments, breaches of the law, or our rules, we will clean up, but in general they last as long as they still drive conversation - It's been this way since www.vistax64.com and it seems to work - will still get occasional posts on the vista forums relating to threads started when Vista was new

Occasionally an open thread may attract the wrong type of post from a user with their own agenda but a simple report from another member will trigger the cleanup as required. We do not remove banned members from threads as this could spoil the flow of the conversation, obviously any unacceptable post or post content will be cleaned up, or totally removed.

Moral issue? First off genetic drugs are just as good as the ones made by the company that developed them. If they weren't they would be for sale.

And yes.. it's a law and the artist also has a contract to get payed royalties for the length of time stipulated in said contract. Yes.. people download music all of the time and some artists encourage it since they know that they're not getting anything from the royalties. IE,, 30 Seconds to Mars. They got screwed by their labile and now they encourage fans to download their music

Bottom line.. this is an apple v orange comparison

So far no problems for me in a VM, not installed it to bare metal yet though.

Why does it always have to be Windows? When all that is doing the computing is the computer?

I know this is propagated by the media outlets but this doesn't make any sense at all.

All the "bad" version were the version where a major thing was changed and it took people some time to like it.
To me there was no difference between the bad builds vs the good builds. Vista was extremely good and i never had issues with it. Granted I had latest generation hardware to run the new AERO experience. By the time 7 came out, people had upgraded.

Win11 will still be good if they keep improving the experience. Given the multi monitor support I'd say its a plus. Get good hardware it won't be bad experience. This perception honestly needs to stop and people need to be more objective about things.

It's only one person's opinion. We all have our own opinions about past OS releases. I disliked Vista so much I stopped using Windows and switched to Mandrake Linux. It wasn't until I became a Win 7 tester that I switched back to Windows as my main OS. Win 8 was another OS I didn't really care for. Win 8.1 made a big difference for me. Win 10 is another good OS. Even in its infancy Win 11 is a good OS and I'm sure it's going to get even better as it matures.
