Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing Windows 11 Build 26100.994 (KB5039304) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100).

This update includes the following features and improvements:
  • This update addresses an issue that affects Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC). It fails to verify the policies of some apps.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects WDAC. It reports a certain class of its policies as not active or not authorized.
  • This update addresses an issue that might cause DWM.exe to stop responding.
  • This update brings Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA) profiles up to date for certain mobile operators.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects Unified Write Filter (UWF). Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) API calls to shut down or restart a system throws an access denied exception.
  • This update addresses an issue believed to be the underlying cause of some Insiders noticing stutters in some animations recently (dropping frames), particularly with Task View.

Just to expand a little bit upon what has been said, a released version of Windows cannot be installed on top of newer BETA releases. Upgrading is possible because Windows setup knows how to handle all the components that need to be updated. However, setup has no knowledge of things that are different and changed in BETA releases because those changes were made later. So the correct answer, as noted, is "NO". You cannot install a released version of Windows on top of newer BETA versions and keep all your settings, programs, etc.

I actually updated normally through Windows Update from Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 22635.3790 (23H2) to Windows 11 Insider Release Preview build 26100.994 (24H2) successfully without any kind of problems or BSODs and it kept all the data files and app as it is too.

After that received and got updated to Windows 11 Cumulative Update Preview build 26100.1000 (24H2) and went fast and smooth :wink:

I tried to upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2 RP 26100.1000, but I had to rollback because of a BSOD caused by a Realtek driver (rtf64x64.sys) and I noticed some stutters (from the same driver, maybe).

Hopefully something will change in the coming weeks.

On Windows 11 23H2 I have this driver installed (1168.11.1206.2022); on 24H2 one thing I noticed was that device manager showed an unkwnown device, but after a few hours I rolled back to 23H2 because I had associated the BSOD to Malwarebytes, while in reality it was Realtek's fault. And so, unfortunately, I couldn't investigate more.
