This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:

Windows 11, version 22H2​

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5041587 (released August 27, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [Windows Installer] When it repairs an application, the User Account Control (UAC) does not prompt for your credentials. After you install this update, the UAC will prompt for them. Because of this, you must update your automation scripts. Application owners must add the Shield icon. It indicates that the process requires full administrator access. To turn off the UAC prompt, set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableLUAInRepair registry value to 1. The changes in this update might affect automatic Windows Installer repairs; see Application Resiliency: Unlock the Hidden Features of Windows Installer.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5043937) - 22621.4166 and 22631.4166​

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

All usersAfter installing this security update, you might face issues with booting Linux if you have enabled the dual-boot setup for Windows and Linux in your device. Resulting from this issue, your device might fail to boot Linux and show the error message “Verifying shim SBAT data failed: Security Policy Violation. Something has gone seriously wrong: SBAT self-check failed: Security Policy Violation.”

The August 2024 Windows security update applies a Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) setting to devices that run Windows to block old, vulnerable boot managers. This SBAT update will not be applied to devices where dual booting is detected. On some devices, the dual-boot detection did not detect some customized methods of dual-booting and applied the SBAT value when it should not have been applied.		Please refer to the workaround mentioned in Windows release health site for this issue.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Gtag is a single tag you can added to a website to measure website and ads performance. The Gtag is needed to send data to Google Ads and Google Analytics.

So if I didn’t know better, a Chrome web page of some sort would need to be running or trying to open?

I rarely run Chrome, i use EDGE. but I was not using it when it happened.
I found some links on the web about that error, I need to check what they are saying and see if they have a solution. 😵‍💫

Search Google for “google gtag ID UA-686301-39” It’s been experienced in the past.

At least one mention of it being fixed by uninstalling an update. Just weird.

The Script Error is caused by Minitool Partition Wizard 12.8, updatechecker.exe and experience.exe.
It is strange that I have been using that same version for years and never had this problem, it just started recently in Sept 2024.
Something must have changed recently to cause this error.
For now, I just renamed those 2 .exe files so that they cannot be found, other users that had the problem previously in Windows 10 suggested to delete those 2 files.
We'll see if Minitool Software Limited comes out with a fix specific to this case. 😵‍💫😝

Could of been an update, could just be that the page it is trying to connect to for analytics currently has a problem.

But… the fact it is even taking the data is a concern in my opinion. I might read up on why and see if they even tell people that they do it, later.

Maybe they just want to check for updates.
I may have found a better solution. They have a task in the task scheduler that starts the updatechecker when a user logs in.
I just disabled that task and will see if that prevents the Script Error from happening.
I rebooted a few times and did not see the error again yet. 🤞

All good with our 5 Win 11 laptops. It's been a different story with the CU for one of my Win 10 machines though. Am currently waiting for the media creation tool to finish a repair installation (yep it went *that* badly).

Actually WU (& to a lesser extent MS Store) has been a hot mess on all the win 10 laptops we have here for several months now, but this is the first time I've had to resort to a repair upgrade. No such problems on Win 11.

I found out that they use experience.exe when opening the program, the 1st time after install and updatechecker.exe when any user logs in.
I could reproduce the script error for both cases. From what I see on the web, they went through these types of problems also with Windows 10 long time ago.
I don't understand why they are still using a script from a google site that is subject to changes, looks like a messy process. 😵‍💫😝🤬

With this update I had problem with DVD-RW backup update. But after all the disc burned. With second disc I haven't problem.

KB5043076 installed very fast, DISM online ran fast too but SFC took 10 minutes to complete, no issues. Storage Sense found 1GB redundant files that I purged.

Gtag is a single tag you can added to a website to measure website and ads performance. The Gtag is needed to send data to Google Ads and Google Analytics.

So if I didn’t know better, a Chrome web page of some sort would need to be running or trying to open?

If you don’t have Minitools, I would guess it may be an issue that has been brought on by the update and could possibly be causing issues with other programs that use an update checker?
