UPDATE 9/26:

 Microsoft Support:

September 10, 2024 - KB5043076 (OS Builds 22621.4169 and 22631.4169)

They will not receive non-security, preview updates. To continue receiving security and non-security updates after October 8, 2024, we recommend that you update to the latest version of Windows.

Note We will continue to support Enterprise and Education editions after October 8, 2024.

For information about Windows update terminology, see the article about the types of Windows updates and the monthly quality update types. For an overview of Windows 11, version 23H2, see its update history page.

Note Follow @WindowsUpdate to find out when new content is published to the Windows release health dashboard.

Windows 11, version 23H2

Important: Use EKB KB5027397 to update to Windows 11, version 23H2.
This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
  • This build includes all the improvements in Windows 11, version 22H2.
  • No additional issues are documented for this release.

Windows 11, version 22H2

This security update includes improvements that were a part of update KB5041587 (released August 27, 2024). Below is a summary of the key issues that this update addresses when you install this KB. If there are new features, it lists them as well. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.
  • [Windows Installer] When it repairs an application, the User Account Control (UAC) does not prompt for your credentials. After you install this update, the UAC will prompt for them. Because of this, you must update your automation scripts. Application owners must add the Shield icon. It indicates that the process requires full administrator access. To turn off the UAC prompt, set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\DisableLUAInRepair registry value to 1. The changes in this update might affect automatic Windows Installer repairs; see Application Resiliency: Unlock the Hidden Features of Windows Installer.
If you installed earlier updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, please refer to the Security Update Guide website and the September 2024 Security Updates.

Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5043937) - 22621.4166 and 22631.4166

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Applies toSymptomWorkaround
All usersAfter installing this security update, you might face issues with booting Linux if you have enabled the dual-boot setup for Windows and Linux in your device. Resulting from this issue, your device might fail to boot Linux and show the error message “Verifying shim SBAT data failed: Security Policy Violation. Something has gone seriously wrong: SBAT self-check failed: Security Policy Violation.”

The August 2024 Windows security update applies a Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) setting to devices that run Windows to block old, vulnerable boot managers. This SBAT update will not be applied to devices where dual booting is detected. On some devices, the dual-boot detection did not detect some customized methods of dual-booting and applied the SBAT value when it should not have been applied.
Please refer to the workaround mentioned in Windows release health site for this issue.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)None. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes (MSU)To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

Having said that I have the pro version and cant find one.

If it is possible to disable it from checking for updates from within the app, do so
If it is in the startup apps, stop it from starting with Windows

Just right click on the Minitool task that tries to start updatechecker in task scheduler and Disable it.
That is all there is.

You can also delete or rename .bak the experience.exe and updatechecker.exe in ProgramFiles\Minitool Partition Wizard 12.

I looked for a task, didn't have one.

Probably best to move this over to here?

If you have the Pro version, it does not have the Task to start the updatechecker.exe.
They only left that on the free version. (Probably by mistake)
Anyway, the problem was reported to Minitool development, and they will have to fix it.
The support guy I emailed yesterday, told me to delete both experience.exe and updatechecker.exe if they are present.
I only found experience.exe in the pro version, but I found both experience.exe and updatechecker.exe on the free version.
The Minitool task in task scheduler is only present with the free version.
Looks like they fixed the problem on the pro when it happened in the past, but they forgot to fix the free version.
Anyway, I deleted both .exe and disabled the Minitool task on the free version.

Quite strange, I decided to forget it and install Notepad++ again. After install, look what reappeared. Creates a Notepad file, however I haven’t associated N++ to text files. Yet.

Bizarre.
I didn't run the above reg file.

I’m terribly inadequate at the best of times, perhaps I messed it up pre update. But I can’t remember running any particular reg file or software that would remove it.

I use that context menu entry basically every day and don’t recall it not being there. I use it to create new text documents for client info and workflow processes.

Yes, I have the same experience at random times. But after restarting it always magically comes back.
