Windows 11 servicing stack update (KB5046247) - 22621.4312 and 22631.4312

This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates.

Known issues in this update

Microsoft is not currently aware of any issues with this update.

How to get this update

Before you install this update

Microsoft combines the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system with the latest cumulative update (LCU). For general information about SSUs, see Servicing stack updates and Servicing Stack Updates (SSU): Frequently Asked Questions.

Install this update

To install this update, use one of the following Windows and Microsoft release channels.

AvailableNext Step
Yes (Windows Update)None. This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update and Microsoft Update.
Yes (MSU)To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

If you want to remove the LCU

To remove the LCU after installing the combined SSU and LCU package, use the DISM/Remove-Package command line option with the LCU package name as the argument. You can find the package name by using this command: DISM /online /get-packages.

Running Windows Update Standalone Installer (wusa.exe) with the /uninstall switch on the combined package will not work because the combined package contains the SSU. You cannot remove the SSU from the system after installation.

OK, I ended up doing a 'Repair-install', it applied all the latest updates so now WinVer is showing 22631.4317, which I believe is today's CU
KB 5044285 - but... when I check update History.. it does not show up. Is that to be expected with a Repair-Install ?

I'm to tired now to do a check for updates... will wait till tomorrow when I have more time.

Usually, repair-installs with ISO do not show up in history. 🤷‍♂️

Is this as clear-cut as MS implies? That 22H2 and 23H2 builds will no longer receive future updates or builds?
So OS' that are still on 22, 22H2 & 23H2 will never receive any OS updates pushing them onto the latest build, and/or removing current build features?

22H2 & 23H2 will never receive any OS updates pushing them onto the latest build, and/or removing current build features?

Windows 11 22H2 is still supported if you use Education or Enterprise edition, so it's weird if they suddenly started to remove already available features.

If something gets deprecated, replaced or removed then it should be written in the news, not just silently be changed.

Sometimes updating will keep everything, but clean install will not have everything enabled by default anymore that previously where in older versions or builds, if you're lucky, then whatever you miss might be available to enable in the list of optional features.

23H2 builds will no longer receive future updates or builds?

Where did you find it written that 23H2 isn't supported anymore? There's unresolved issues with 24H2, so it will take time before everyone will be offered or forced to update.

If you use Home or Pro, then Win11 23H2 is supported until Nov 11, 2025 if you read official lifecycle policy website.

Updated this morning. Keep in mind, I don't install preview builds nor have I done any modifications. The installation got stuck at 25% and 35% but moved on quickly after that. SFC and DISM found no errors. CoPilot did move from the left side of my taskbar to the center. So far this update appears to be working properly; that being said only time will tell.

If you use Home or Pro, then Win11 23H2 is supported until Nov 11, 2025 if you read official lifecycle policy website.

This was my mistake when quick reading the notice page this morning, as although the actual notice explains this is for 22H2 only, on a quick scan of the headlines all you really see is the versions and "END OF SERVICE". That MS referenced 23H2 led to the unnecessary confusion, as just like 24H2, 23H2 isn't affected, so there was no need to include it:

October 8, 2024—KB5044285 (OS Builds 22621.4317 and 22631.4317)
Frankly though the reason for my questions was to ascertain whether my 21H2 will update, or escape further efforts by MS to update it.

22H2 broke my Assassins Creed Odyssey, it broke a number of games, but subsequent patches from both MS and Ubisoft (and others) resolved the framerate and performance issues for all other games, but sadly AC Odyssey remained broken. I tried everything, and my pc is a beastly 2022 Alienware (Alienware x15 R2: Core i9 12900H, 32GB DDR5 5200 memory, GeForce RTX 3080Ti 16GB GDDR6). I finally gave in and dual booted, returning my 'gaming OS' back to 21H2 which fixed the issues I was experiencing.
So you can see my desire to prevent my gaming OS from updating, keeping it on the OS that works. Sure, the other OS is on 23H2, chugging along nicely
