Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing Windows 11 Build 26100.2152 (KB5044384) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100).

Below is a summary of the new features and improvements included as part of this update separated into two sections: gradual rollout and normal rollout. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.

Gradual rollout​

The following features and improvements might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually. Text bolded in brackets indicate the area of the change being documented.
  • [Start menu] New! You can directly access content on your mobile device from the Start menu on your PC. Using this feature, you can view your device’s battery status and connectivity, access your voice messages, calls, and photos, and pick up where you left off with the latest activities on your device. Only Android users who are already connected using Phone Link can get this feature. iOS support will be coming later. To manage this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Start. [UPDATE 10/14] This feature will roll out to Insiders in Release Preview on Windows 11, version 24H2 at a later date and is not rolling out yet with this update.

Nothing else. Just network sharing and the need to enable "File and Printer Sharing (Restrictive)", and as you stated, "File and Printer Sharing" to avoid the prompt.

I had one machine with a screen 1920 x 1080 that did not fail at all with one 24H2 build, then I tried other builds on the same hardware, and it started to do the same thing.
The 3 dots menu opening upwards instead of downwards. 🤷‍♂️
The other menus on file explorer (View, Filter) still open correctly downwards.
Only the 3 dots menu is screwed up. 😂😂

For me "File and Printer Sharing (Restrictive)" was already enabled on its own after the update. (Both Private and Public)
I just had to enable the standard "File and Printer Sharing" to avoid the message on the network. 😂😂
Then I decided to change "File and Printer Sharing (Restrictive)" just for Private. 😉

I see that your "File and Printer Sharing (Restrictive)" is greyed out in the Microsoft Community thread. My "File and Printer Sharing" was greyed out after installing KB5044384. I never used or needed "File and Printer Sharing (Restrictive)" before installing KB5044384.

The (Restrictive) is a new one added, it was tested previously on some other build. You can find out when from the web.
It is supposed to have better security.
The grayed out does not mean anything, may look greyed out because that was the line I selected with the cursor. It can be changed anyway when you click on change settings. 😉🤷‍♂️

"File and Printer Sharing (Restrictive)" must have been introduced before KB5044384. See my before and after images above.

The problem with this bug is that not everyone will notice the problem right away. It was probably about 2 days after installing KB5044384 that I need to share some files to my other computers.

They tested this (Restrictive) stuff with Build 25992, now it looks like they are starting to use it, and we see the bugs.
That is why they have the FBH, to report the problems and the bugs.
File an FBH report. I filed one when I saw the problem. 😉🤷‍♂️

There is a bug on the network that started 2 years ago, and they still have not fixed it.
Still have to use a workaround. 🤣🤐🤬

This one is on 26120.2122.

You can see that (Restrictive) is added as an option, but not used in this specific build yet, it is not checked.
It was checked on my machine right after the update to 26100.2152. In a week or two the same will happen on this one. 😉

That is why you had a bigger problem, and you should file a separate FBH report.
Mine was checked in 26100.2152 for both Private and Public and the only problem was the silly message below about "File sharing turned off". 🤷‍♂️

Yeah , the three dots FE menu opening upwards is a PITA , you have to drag FE window down. This big is also on release version. Hard to see how MS could miss this!

I have clean-installed a laptop and a desktop with 24H2 and afterwards the problem was fixed on both. This was on the RP 2152 version too. The following day the desktop reverted, and it seems only to have happened after a large number of store apps were updated. Now the laptop has reverted too, again after some store apps were updated. I have no idea which though at this point.

This 24H2 doesn't seem ready for prime time.
I was going to update my public 23H2 systems to 24H2, but I think I'll wait till they clean up 24H2 from the bugs they still have. 🤐🤷‍♂️

Beginning to suspect there's been a Known Issue Rollback, as when the update is first installed, the 3 dots FE issue does not occur, but does a few hours later.
