Hello Windows Insiders, today we’re releasing Windows 11 Build 26100.2152 (KB5044384) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100).

Below is a summary of the new features and improvements included as part of this update separated into two sections: gradual rollout and normal rollout. The bold text within the brackets indicates the item or area of the change we are documenting.

Gradual rollout​

The following features and improvements might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually. Text bolded in brackets indicate the area of the change being documented.
  • [Start menu] New! You can directly access content on your mobile device from the Start menu on your PC. Using this feature, you can view your device’s battery status and connectivity, access your voice messages, calls, and photos, and pick up where you left off with the latest activities on your device. Only Android users who are already connected using Phone Link can get this feature. iOS support will be coming later. To manage this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Start. [UPDATE 10/14] This feature will roll out to Insiders in Release Preview on Windows 11, version 24H2 at a later date and is not rolling out yet with this update.

Here is another Network problem with 24H2, common to R.P. and Dev, and also happening with Canary 27729.1000.
I even saw this problem on a Beta machine with 22635.4371. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️
The Service FDResPub is set to start Manul (Trigger Start), but the trigger does not seem to work, and the service is not running after Window is up and running.
Without this service running the PC is not visible at all from any PC on the network.
This looks like bug common to all latest Build.
Note that some of the updated PCs may have this set to Automatic. (Not very consistent, typical MS. 😝😵‍💫🤷‍♂️)

To fix half of the problem I just changed the service to Automatic (Trigger Start).
That fixed only half of the problem because the PC still does not show up on the local PC network unless FDResPub is restarted again after the PC is up and running. The second half of this problem was never fixed by MS even if it was reported over 2 years ago.
I always had to restart FDResPub to get around the bug.

This change below is just a temporary fix for half of the problem, while waiting for MS to come up with a proper fix. 😂😂🤷‍♂️

After reading this thread I thought I should send a message to MS.

For an upgrade needing sneaky bits, why doesn't a new install come setup like the previous version and then have a setting one could choose that adds the security bits in one go. Job done. Everyone happy.

We wouldn't have needed this long tortuous thread, then.

Funny, I'm running that build on at least 10 machines with zero problems whatsoever.

Maybe the one thing different is that these were ALL clean installs, with no updates involved.

I have no issue that you hold that view, but it isn't the experience of all users of that Cumulative Update of 24h2.

I've had no major issues with 24H2 nor the KB5044384 Cumulative Update, that is on my PC which hasn't had a clean install of Windows 11 since circa July 2023. It has had many different versions of Windows 11 over this period.

That said I'm planning to do a full clean install by the end of 2024. I also have multiple system image backups if I have a catastrophe.

I have not done a clean install since Windows 8 on my main laptop (transferring and upgrading OS to 3 new laptops since). I still idle at 1% CPU (and my laptop as well 😁).

My 'main machine' (System One here) has never had a clean install, started life as an OEM Windows 7 on my previous main machine (System One on Ten Forums) before transferring the Win10 OS. The nearest it came to a clean install was a Factory Reset of its OEM Windows 7 back in 2014, in preparation for the free W10 upgrade. Now it is on 24H2 that makes 17 upgrades so far....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

That's amazing. I should try to be more like that :-). On my primary machine, I manage to go maybe a year before I feel like I have to do a clean install if for no other reason than to test my processes. I also use it as an opportunity to carefully test my backups and make sure that I can do a successful restore.

On some of my other machines, I reinstall clean about once a month simply because clean installs, automated installs, and related stuff is what I do, and I need to test those procedures as I am refining them continuously.

I only do clean installs when a absolutely necessary. I've done quite a few repair installs over the years
