Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*​

[General]​

  • This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.

[Fonts]​

  • There is a new simplified Chinese font (Simsun-ExtG) with 9,753 ideographs supporting Unicode Extensions G, H and I. Included is the highly requested character for Biangbiang noodles. This character U+30EDD is said to be the most complicated Chinese character, as you can see in the image below. We are aware that some applications may not be able to display these new extension characters yet.

    • Unicode range H 31350-323AF (4,192 chars)

  • Fixed an issue for some Insiders with dual boot devices, where the boot menu (where you select which OS to boot into) wasn’t displaying correctly (the color was wrong, and it might only display in half the available space).

[Settings]​

  • We are adding the ability to configure the Copilot key. You can choose to have the Copilot key launch an app that is MSIX packaged and signed, thus indicating the app meets security and privacy requirements to keep customers safe. The key will continue to launch Copilot on devices that have the Copilot app installed until a customer selects a different experience. This setting can be found via Settings > Personalization > Text input. If the keyboard connected to your PC does not have a Copilot key, adjusting this setting will not do anything. We are planning further refinements to this experience in a future flight.

  • This build may fail to install with error 0x800f0983. If you see this error, please try to install it again, as it should work on retry. If it stays on 0%, please be patient – it should proceed.

[Start menu]​

  • If you click or tap on a letter on Start menu’s All apps list, the All apps list may break. If you encounter this issue, please try rebooting or restarting explorer.exe to fix it.

New Clock widgets: Countdown and Timer​

We are rolling out a Clock app update to Windows Insiders across all Insider Channels that includes two new clock widgets: countdown and timer. Make sure you have the latest version of the Clock app update from the Microsoft Store (version 11.2408.9.0 and higher). After you open the widgets board, you can open the widgets picker by clicking the “+” button in the top right corner where you would be able to add these widgets to your board.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel​

  • Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 via an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx).
  • Updates delivered to the Dev Channel are in a format that offers a preview of enhancements to servicing technology on Windows 11, version 24H2. To learn more, see Introducing Windows 11 checkpoint cumulative updates.
  • Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • For Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your device over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. It is standard practice for any full upgrade, Insider or RTM, feature update or in-place repair upgrade, to reset some key registry settings to their default. For example, I like to see full details of a file being copied with Explorer, including the progress chart. Every full feature update since the first one for Windows 10 has reset that back to minimal details.

So yes, this one would have done so too. Whether that was the prime reason for MS using a full upgrade this time, or just a side effect is unknown.

0x800f0983 has also been reported.
Don't waste your time re-trying, better wait for the next Dev release.
Sometimes, going the ISO way works, takes longer though and no guarantee.

Presumably an unsupported system? For this release (I'm praying that it's not a regular thing). you'll have to make a uupdump ISO. Installing with "setup.exe /product server" will likely be needed. And if you use the "Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update" batch normally then disable it temporarily.

BTW, I saw one comment that this worked to allow WU, but I think that was a mistype. It should only pertain to the ISO method, but I'd love to be wrong.

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

The Intel Xeon 5680 in your profile specs is not on the list of supported Intel processors. I have two unsupported devices running the Dev build, neither of then could successfully install this update. They both gave the same error as you are seeing. The only device I have that successfully upgraded is fully supported for Windows 11.

I got around it by temporarily moving the installed OS to a supported device, used that to perform the upgrade, then moved the OS back to the unsupported device. This is probably not a practical solution for most, it was convenient for me as I run all my Insider builds as native boot vhdx. It was just a matter of copying the .vhdx file to an external SSD then native booting that on the supported PC.

Does this mean it’s the end of the road for 24H2 future updates for unsupported devices? Now i am stuck with current build 24H2 (can’t go forward with future updates and can’t go backward to 23H2. Should had stay with 23H2 until 24H2 final release! What a mess!

Does this mean it’s the end of the road for 24H2 future updates for unsupported devices? Now i am stuck with current build 24H2 (can’t go forward with future updates and can’t go backward to 23H2. Should had stay with 23H2 until 24H2 final release! What a mess!

Do not give up yet.
I also have an unsupported device and it installed fine.
Six months ago, however, I was in the same predicament you are in now.
2 builds later, the update ran successfully.

I have this same issue after I upgraded from 23H2 to 24H2. It keeps saying I have corrupt file and successfully repaired every time I ran sfc /scannow. Mybe this is the reason I got I got this 0xc1900101? Just maybe?

No, or at least I hope not for the sake of my unsupported devices.

This update to 26120.1930 was almost unique amongst Insider updates. It was a full upgrade, replacing all system files. We've had those before without issues, most recently on the Canary channel (which I also have running on unsupported devices). But this one was different, instead of the normal process of a Feature Update through Windows Update, 26120.1930 was instead delivered as an in-place repair upgrade.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

The Dev 24H2 build 26120 is the RTM 24H2 26100 with an Enablement Package installed. It shares a common set of system files with the public release of 24H2, the enablement package turns on extra feature and bumps the build number up by 20.

I'm guessing you used the InsiderOfflineEnrol scrip to join Insiders. If so, run it again to un-enrol the PC. Then download the ISO for the public build of 24H2 from Microsoft. Use a workaround (such as Rufus) to do an in-place repair upgrade. You should be able to 'upgrade' to the public 24H2 while keeping your installed apps and files.
