Insider KB5052090 Windows 11 Insider Beta and Dev build 26120.3360 (24H2) - Feb. 28

UPDATE 3/10:

 Windows Blogs:

Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3360 (KB5052090) to the Dev and Beta Channels.

As a reminder – we’re also offering the same Dev Channel updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. These updates will be optional at first, so if you are in the Beta Channel today, you can upgrade when you are ready to do so. We plan to make these updates recommended later this year, which means you will eventually get upgraded to 24H2-based updates automatically in the Beta Channel.

If you are an Insider in the Dev Channel, the window is open to switch from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel if you would like. This window will only be open for as long as we’re releasing the same 24H2-based updates (same build numbers) across both the Dev and Beta Channels. When the Dev Channel jumps ahead (higher build numbers), the window to switch will close. Please note that switching from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel may result in the loss of some features temporarily.

IMPORTANT: This window is closing soon, so we highly encourage you to evaluate which channel you would like to be in during this time in which the window to switch is still open.

New features gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*

Choose what Lock screen widgets appear

We’re beginning to roll out support for lock screen widgets (previously referred to as “Weather and more”) to Windows Insiders in the European Economic Area (EEA). You can add, remove, and rearrange lock screen widgets such as Weather, Watchlist, Sports, Traffic, and more. Any widget that supports the small sizing option can be added here. To customize your lock screen widgets, navigate to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. We are starting this rollout first with Insiders in the EEA and plan to expand to Insiders in other regions in the future. Insiders outside the EEA will continue to see the “Weather and more” experience.

As part of this, we’re also adding support for a new group policy called “Disable Widgets On Lock Screen” that will allow IT administrators to disable lock screen widgets without disabling widgets elsewhere on PCs they manage. To edit this policy, please launch the Local Group Policy Editor app and navigate to Computer Configurations > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Widgets. This policy is only supported in EEA regions at this time but will expand to include other regions in the future as well.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Desktop Environment > Lock screen.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*

  • We are beginning to roll out a change to the way Task Manager calculates CPU utilization for the Processes, Performance, and Users pages. Task Manager will now use the standard metrics to display CPU workload consistently across all pages and aligning with industry standards and third-party tools. For backward compatibility, a new optional column called CPU Utility is available (hidden by default) on the Details tab showing the previous CPU value used on the Processes page.

[Windows Share]

  • We are adding the ability to share directly to apps that support sharing in Windows when right-clicking on local files in File Explorer or the desktop.

Share with apps directly through the context menu in File Explorer or on the desktop.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*

[File Explorer]

  • Fixed an issue where File Explorer Home might not load correctly and just show random floating text saying “Name”.

[Taskbar]

  • Fixed an issue where the underlines under app icons in the taskbar may get stuck showing even if the app had been closed.

[Remote Desktop]

  • Fixed an issue which was leading to some people experiencing Remote Desktop freezes on login, or frequent disconnects.

[Settings]

  • Fixed an issue where an underlying crash was causing Settings to show an error message on launch (“The instruction at 0x00007FFEDEBDC003 referenced memory at 0x0000000000000010. The memory could not be read,”). If impacted, you might also have seen a similar error message with RuntimeBroker.exe.

[Other]

  • Fixed an issue where if you were upgrading to a higher build number and it failed and rolled back, it could potentially result in a duplicate Windows entry in the boot menu.
  • Fixed an issue for Insiders using the ability to resume OneDrive files, which could result in your mouse frequently showing a spinning icon.

Known issues

[General]

  • After you do a PC reset under Settings > System > Recovery, your build version may incorrectly show as Build 26100 instead of Build 26120. This will not prevent you from getting future Dev Channel updates which will resolve this issue.

[Recall]

  • [REMINDER] Make sure you update Microsoft 365 apps to the latest version so you can jump back into specific documents.
The following known issues will be fixed in future updates to Windows Insiders:
  • Some Insiders may experience an issue where Recall is unable to automatically save snapshots, and the setting can’t be turned on in Settings. We’re working on a fix for this issue.
  • Recall can be enabled or disabled from “Turn Windows features on or off”. We are caching the Recall binaries on disk while we test add/remove. In a future update we will completely remove the binaries.

[Click to Do]

  • [REMINDER] If any of your actions on image entities are no longer appearing, please ensure you have the latest updates for the Photos and Paint app from the Microsoft Store.
  • [REMINDER] The intelligent text actions leverage the power of Microsoft’s secure cloud to improve your text results by ensuring prompts and responses are safe and appropriate. This data is automatically deleted. Local moderation to ensure the safety of prompts and responses will be added in the future, replacing this cloud endpoint.
The following known issues will be fixed in future updates to Windows Insiders:
  • Sometimes additional context is given when using more intelligent text actions powered by Phi Silica.

[Improved Windows Search]

  • [REMINDER] For improved Windows Search on Copilot+ PCs, it is recommended that you plug in your Copilot+ PC for the initial search indexing to get completed. You can check your search indexing status under Settings > Privacy & security > Searching Windows.

[File Explorer]

  • We’re working on the fix for an issue causing File Explorer to be very slow to close for some Insiders when closing using the X button. This may also have an impact on the other title bar buttons.

[Task Manager]

  • [NEW] After adding the new CPU Utility column, you may notice that System Idle Process always shows as 0.
  • [NEW] The CPU graphs in the Performance page are still using the old CPU utility calculations.

Snipping Tool Update (version 11.2501.7.0)

We are rolling out an update for Snipping Tool to Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview Channels (in addition to the Canary and Dev Channels already) that introduces trim! With trim, you can adjust the start and end times of your screen recordings to cut out any unnecessary video snippets from your video.

New trim capability for screen recordings in Snipping Tool.
New trim capability for screen recordings in Snipping Tool.

To get started, record a new screen recording with Snipping Tool. Open the recording in the app and select the new Trim button at the top of the window to enter the trim feature. Use the grabbers to move and select new timepoints for the start and end times of your screen recording. Press the Apply or Cancel button to save or discard your changes. You can also re-enter trim to undo or adjust any trimmed portions.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Snipping Tool.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

  • Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels on Windows 11, version 24H2 will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 24H2 via an enablement package (Build 26120.xxxx).
  • Updates delivered to the Dev Channel are in a format that offers a preview of enhancements to servicing technology on Windows 11, version 24H2. To learn more, see Introducing Windows 11 checkpoint cumulative updates | Windows IT Pro Blog.
  • Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and ramping up over time as we monitor feedback to see how they land before pushing them out to everyone in this channel.
  • For Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel who want to be the first to get features gradually rolled out to you, you can turn ON the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available via Settings > Windows Update*. Over time, we will increase the rollouts of features to everyone with the toggle turned on. Should you keep this toggle off, new features will gradually be rolled out to your PC over time once they are ready.
  • Features and experiences included in these builds may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. Features may change over time, be removed, or replaced and never get released beyond Windows Insiders. Some of these features and experiences could show up in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
  • Some features in active development we preview with Windows Insiders may not be fully localized and localization will happen over time as features are finalized. As you see issues with localization in your language, please report those issues to us via Feedback Hub.
  • Please note that some accessibility features may not work with features like Recall and Click to Do while in preview with Windows Insiders.
  • Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first.
  • Check out Flight Hub for a complete look at what build is in which Insider channel.
Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon

The bullet point summary option in Click to Do, added in last week's Dev/Beta CU, has been moved to the main context menu (instead of being hidden under summarize) and is called "Create a bulleted list" in 26120.3360

Oh, just for kicks I just ran the system at 100% and took a shot of the HWINFO sensors CPU Usage at the very top vs CPU Utility at the bottom. See my percentage lol? It's funny but true.

Did you check the CBS log to see what files were repaired?
I got those reoccurring Bth files that show up almost on every update. 😝🤷‍♂️
Never got any explanation from MS on those files. 😵‍💫🤷‍♂️

As soon as I read the news about this latest update, Ichecked settings and it was already to install. As I write this, the restart request has come up, so here goes.
An easy update as usual and it seems to be working ok.

Anyone who ever mentions anything over 100% is showing their ignorance of mathmatics. Reminds me of the tongue in cheek Buzz Lightyear saying, "to infinity and beyond" which was a joke that passed over many heads.

I have WU provided drivers disabled so it doesn't overwrite good drivers and their control panels.

I've wondered over doing that in the past although in all fairness to Microsoft I've not had an issue. I know there is always a first time but I have to say its worked well and particularly so when clean installing.

I noticed one difference between my 26120.3360 Beta versus the same build in Dev.
1) In Beta channel they have an experimental attempted fix enabled for the 3 dots menu opening upwards which unfortunately adds a new bug on closing File explorer. 🤬 (Feature id:54792954, this feature was enabled in 23H2 Beta for a completely different purpose, adding the labels under the icons in F.E. context menus, now they are reusing the same id for the attempted fix of the 3 dots menu bug)
Fix one issue by adding a new bug. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It now requires a "Click + Hover away" from the red X to finally close the File Explorer window. 😂😂😂

2) In Dev channel I don't see the same experimental fix enabled (Feature id:54792954) so it still has the 3 dots menu opening upwards, when the display Scale is not 100%, 200% or 300%. 😵‍💫😝🤬 (At least it does not have the new added bug on closing File Explorer).
Both bugs are annoying, and MS just cannot put out a valid fix for both problems yet. 🤣🤣🤣
Note:
The easy workaround to eliminate both bugs, is by disabling both feature ids 51960011 and 54792954. 😉

Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updated to v26100.3321 from v26100.3180 which was last updated by v26120.3281 Beta:
1740908882891.webp
The following all passed without any complaints unless noted:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Both of the above has an error 87 as noted in previous posts while using Command Prompt but worked fine with PowerShell
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
did complain about a corrupted and repaired file which 26120.3291 didn't complain about but it's not really corrupted, as it was the Dolby Atmos AC-3 Digital Plus file that 24H2 no longer includes so it probably used the checksum of the one that came from 23H2 but on my system, I have a newer version of the codec
provided by AnWave at Releases · SimonMacer/AnWave
sfc /scannow would complain if I installed from AnWave immediately before another sfc /scannow but not complain if I did another sfc /scannow without updating the Dolby Digital Atmos codec.

More about this in the thread here:

Dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore
Dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
As noted previously, for Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3073 Beta, 26120.3281 Beta, 26120.3291 Beta, 26120.3360 Beta - the DISM for for /ScanHealth and /RestoreHealth seems to be faster compared to 23H2, /CheckHealth is always instant.
As @asturias7 mentioned that 24H2 Build 26120.3073 Beta broke Intel Bluetooth and Realtek Audio, my Intel Bluetooth is working fine as I just tried my Bluetooth Wireless Cambridge Audio Melomania Touch True Wireless Headphones and they worked fine. This is on an Intel AX210 WiFi 6E/Bluetooth v5.3 on WiFi Drivers v23.120.0.3 and Bluetooth Drivers v23.120.0.4.

For the Realtek Audio,
The following configuration worked fine in Windows 11 23H2 Build 22635.4870 Beta:
Realtek UAD Audio Driver v6.0.9768.1
Realtek ASIO Component v1.0.13.1
Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1505 for Hardware ID: SWC\VEN_10EC&AID_0001 - Windows 11
Realtek Audio Universal Service v1.0.821.8
Realtek Hardware Support Application v11.0.6000.355
Realtek Audio Console v1.52.354.0

but there is no sound on Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3073 Beta

I had to downgrade to:
Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.1.6000.1076 for Hardware ID: SWC\VEN_10EC&AID_0001 - Windows 11 before sound was working again.

Same issue even if I used a older Realtek UAD Audio Driver.

I did uninstall and removed all drivers and used Dell's Realtek UAD Audio Driver v6.0.8991 which worked and then updated all the components to the versions above. The Realtek Audio Effects Component was already on v13.1.6000.1076
which worked until it was replaced with the newer v13.0.6000.1505 when the sound stopped working, then rolling back to v13.1.6000.1076 worked again. This is on a Dell XPS 15 9570 notebook computer.

I should also mention when there is no sound, it also made Fxsound unresponsive and when I restart the computer when the sound was not working, it also was stuck on a endless restart on the screen so it seems like it was hanging all the processes on the computer as a whole.

With Realtek Audio UAD 6.0.9780.1 drivers, Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1505 for Hardware ID: SWC\VEN_10EC&AID_0001 - Windows 11 works for sound output but the mic does not work while v13.1.6000.1076 works fine under Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3073 Beta. APO v13.1 did work fine with the mic under Windows 11 23H2 Beta Build 22635.4870. Same thing with Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3281 Beta. Realtek UAD Audio Driver v6.0.9785.1 drivers with Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3281 Beta has the exact same results as Realtek Audio UAD 6.0.9780.1 drivers. Realtek Audio Console v1.52.356.0 works fine with Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3281 Beta. Same exact results with Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3291 Beta, 26120.3360 Beta.

Updated March 6, 2025:
With Realtek Audio UAD 6.0.9785.1 drivers, Realtek Audio Universal Service v1.0.833.0 drivers, Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.1.6000.1076 drivers, it works fine under Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3360 Beta but with Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1505 and Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1565 drivers, mic gets disabled.

Updated March 9, 2025:
With Realtek UAD Audio Driver v6.0.9788.1 drivers, Realtek Audio Universal Service v1.0.833.0 drivers, Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.1.6000.1076 drivers, it works fine under Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3360 Beta but with Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1505 and Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1565 drivers, mic gets disabled. However, on March 8, 2025 - I did end up getting everything working with Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1505 and Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1565 drivers and the mic is working properly.
This is what I did:
1) Turned off internet to go offline
2) Opened Windows Settings, Apps, Installed Apps and then Uninstalled Realtek Audio Driver which still shows v6.0.8991.1 as this is from the Dell provided Realtek Drivers installer
3) Reboot to Safe Mode in Windows
4) Used Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) v18.0.9.3 to uninstall Audio, Realtek drivers
5) Rebooted to regular mode in Windows while still offline
6) Installed Realtek Audio Driver using Dell provided Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_T2GDD_WIN_6.0.8991.1_A10_02.EXE, I will describe below exactly what it installed and what I upgraded to:
Realtek UAD Audio Driver v6.0.8991.1 upgraded to Realtek UAD Audio Driver v6.0.9788.1
Realtek ASIO Component v1.0.0.5 upgraded to Realtek ASIO Component v1.0.13.1
Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1505 where the mic worked, upgraded to Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1) v13.0.6000.1565 where the mic also worked.
Realtek Audio Universal Service v1.0.0.276 upgraded to Realtek Audio Universal Service v1.0.833.0
7) Turn on Internet to go back online and there was no existing Realtek Audio Console application on the system
8) Microsoft store installed RealtekAudioControl (RtkUWP) v1.51.342.0 which I upgraded with a manual installer to RealtekAudioControl (RtkUWP) v1.52.356.0

I want to mention that previously, with the last being February 23, 2025 in which I did a in-place upgrade repair install of Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3921 Beta, I did the above as well except after step 2, I also uninstalled the MaxAudio Waves app and also reinstalled it after step #6 but I want to mention that for the Realtek Audio Effects Component (APO1), it was on v13.1.6000.1076 drivers which worked with the mic and when upgrading to v13.0.6000.1505, the mic would get disabled so it seems like it could be something in the registry previously.

Just like Windows 11 24H2 Build 26120.3073 Beta/26120.3281 Beta, 26120.3291 Beta and 26120.3360 Beta compared to 23H2 Build 22635.4870 Beta as well as 23H2 Builds in general:
1) It takes a lot longer to load all the startup items
2) CPU % usage is higher
