There, I clicked on "Chipsets" from the "Browse Products" list, then "AM4", then "B550", which is the model number of my chipset. This downloaded the file "amd_chipset_software_6.07.22.037.exe".

That's the proper way to do it. :-)

On a site like the one with AMD drivers, it's usually best to find the driver "manually".
They have so many drivers, a direct link to all the chipset drivers is impossible.
They do have an auto-detect tool as well... but those are usually an accident just waiting to happen. ^^

It's sort of like finding vid card drivers on Nvidia's site. A manual search is the way t o go.

NOTE: The auto-detect tools on laptop manufacturer's websites, are a good thing, and seem to work well for laptops.

For chipset drivers though, it's best to get them directly from AMD or Intel.

tl;dr Don't use the big button at the top of the linked page in the OP. Scroll down and navigate to your specific chipset and download those drivers. These are different files for me, and only the latter work correctly.

I went to the page linked in the OP and used the big button "Download Windows Drivers" at the top to download the file "amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.7.1-minimalsetup-240718_web.exe". Running this program produced the expected dialog box with the buttons for the various drivers, all checked, but hovering over several of them produced tooltips stating that the action would be to downgrade to an earlier version. I canceled and went back to the page linked in the OP and scrolled down to the section titled "Search or Browse Drivers and Support by Product". There, I clicked on "Chipsets" from the "Browse Products" list, then "AM4", then "B550", which is the model number of my chipset. This downloaded the file "amd_chipset_software_6.07.22.037.exe". This matches the version number cited in the OP, but not the file downloaded by clicking on the big button at the top of the linked AMD page. It produced the same dialog box as the first program, but unlike the first program, all the drivers were either current or updates. I don't know if it's always like this, but it could mess up people who aren't paying very close attention.

That was earlier today. I just redownloaded the file using the big button with the intent to quote the text I saw in the tooltips concerning downgrading drivers, but having since run the chipset-specific installer mentioned above, this "amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.7.1-minimalsetup-240718_web.exe" program isn't letting me get this far. Instead of buttons for all the drivers, the dialog box it produces contains the error message, "Oops! Something went wrong. Error 182 - AMD Software Installer detected AMD graphics hardware in your system configuration that is not supported." That's totally bogus, as my 5800X doesn't have graphics, and my video card is by Nvidia. The chipset-specific installer "amd_chipset_software_6.07.22.037.exe" continues to run correctly.
Adrenalin is not chipset driver but GPU driver, they are not related. Those with laptops should choose laptop drivers, chipset or GPU.

Dude, read the second paragraph you quoted, which clearly would've saved you from posting and me having to respond to correct you. Also, note that the big button at the top of the page linked in the OP appears as below:

1722207772439.png

Most people are just gonna click on it, because it's right there at the top and sounds easy. It certainly is easier than knowing your chipset model and navigating several more links to get to it.

ETA: If "AMD Radeon Series Graphics and Ryzen Chipsets" is a monolithic product, they should make that clear, and more importantly, prevent its installer program from running on and potentially downgrading systems it isn't intended for, which is apparently what it would have done if I had let it finish the first time I ran it. If it's a monolithic product, they're requiring the user to be familiar with a very subtle nomenclature choice, because the natural thing is to assume this software automatically updates AMD drivers, period. Again, it offered to do this the first time I ran it, only it would have downgraded several of them if I hadn't examined tooltips over its buttons.

That clearly states it is not a driver but utility to choose and download driver for appropriate OS and it's GPU. Also what is surprising that drivers can be up or downgraded ?

As I described, the program "amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.7.1-minimalsetup-240718_web.exe" didn't produce an error the first time. Presumably, if I had gone ahead and clicked "Install", it would have happily downgraded several of my drivers. It was only after running "amd_chipset_software_6.07.22.037.exe" that it produced the error. FWIW, I had last installed chipset drivers on 7/11/24 using "amd_chipset_software_6.05.28.016.exe". One explanation could be that the "minimalsetup" program will offer to install drivers only if there is at least one it can update to a newer version, and there was one such driver in addition to several others it would have downgraded per the tooltips over its buttons.
I found why its giving an errror 195

Why are you writing this to me? In my OP I stated the series of clicks I pursued to download the correct chipset driver:

There, I clicked on "Chipsets" from the "Browse Products" list, then "AM4", then "B550", which is the model number of my chipset. This downloaded the file "amd_chipset_software_6.07.22.037.exe".

Now you're suggesting to "browse processors" instead of chipsets and giving the wrong processor, despite my remark that I have a 5800X.

That clearly states it is not a driver but utility to choose and download driver for appropriate OS and it's GPU.
It's an automatic updater. It's not uncommon for companies to provide a small automatic updater that downloads whatever is necessary along with larger standalone updaters that don't require Internet connection. If you think this one shouldn't necessarily work right when only chipsets are desired, you'd have to conclude the same thing for graphics, because graphics are included in the list in the bottom half of the page:

1722213535724.png

Also what is surprising that drivers can be up or downgraded ?

If you don't think it's surprising for an updater to automatically put checkmarks on buttons whose tooltips indicate would perform downgrades, I guess we don't have a common frame of reference for discussion.

NOTE: The auto-detect tools on laptop manufacturer's websites, are a good thing, and seem to work well for laptops.

That's normally the way I've done it, as is apparent from my AMD drivers folder contents. I don't know why I clicked on the "big button at the top of the page" this time. I really have no idea. Maybe the button wasn't there before, or I got to a different driver page through a Google search that was a direct link to chipset drivers instead of clicking in the link that's in the OP. Maybe I'm just slipping. Whatever the case, I think downloading a suboptimal installer from the page linked in the OP is a very easy mistake to make, and it would be very easy to go through with the driver downgrades that you wouldn't know about except by carefully examining button tooltips before mindlessly clicking the "Install" button. I think AMD has screwed up badly with this.

I'm on AM4 and it installed for me.
I think the installer checks your system, and installs whatever it needs to.

Mine has always installed all 5 parts.

But... I do have drivers included with Windows Updates, blocked.
That may have something to do with it.

Maybe you're getting your PPM driver from MS?
Nope, never have. I disabled driver updates from MS a long time ago.

I found the installer in the AMD folder, it installed this driver. It doesn't seem to do anything that I've noticed.
Perhaps it's only needed for certain CPUs, I guess the AMD installer would include it if needed for my system

Why are you writing this to me? In my OP I stated the series of clicks I pursued to download the correct chipset driver:

Now you're suggesting to "browse processors" instead of chipsets and giving the wrong processor, despite my remark that I have a 5800X.
I was giving an example to the wrong person , lol i just realized now.

If you don't think it's surprising for an updater to automatically put checkmarks on buttons whose tooltips indicate would perform downgrades, I guess we don't have a common frame of reference for discussion.
Where did you see an automatic chipset driver downloader/installer on AMD site ?
These are both for Adrenalin Graphics driver packs, First is for DGPU and second for IGPU

Except for one little detail, the updater only sees the graphics driver and not the chipset.

What I meant about --> "just had to copy and paste from the packages folder to the binaries folder"
is these folders..
C:\AMD\Chipset_Software\Packages\IODriver\'driver-package-sub-folders'\ --> C:\AMD\Chipset_Software\Binaries\
copying the sub folder that contains the [W11x64] and [WTx64] driver folders..

to the binaries folder because it always errors out for me... when I try to install and don't do it..
Me too.

That was true at one time, now just a leftover.
I've never used the auto detector option with AMD. So unsure how accurate/thorough it is.
