.MSI versions are best used by system admins who need to deploy software to a multitude of PCs easily, and /' or with specific settings enabled / disabled when deploying.

The average end user most likely has no need to do that, so .EXE is fine. But, at the same time, there is nothing stopping your from using an .MSI if you want.

I was always of the understanding that, if you use the msi installer, the traditional un-install process would be more thorough.

.exe is more flexible as it gives you choices like if you want the icon(s) in the start menu, taskbar, desktop, the path to install, and if it's a upgrade or not. The MSI which I tried first time yesterday seems to just install, it doesn't let the user choose anything. The MSI is the one that probably won't allow installing over the same version and only a Repair option.

The reason .msi files were implemented was to eliminate the risk of contaminated .exe where malicious code can be embedded.
.msi files must also meet standardized requirements and no unauthorized code can be inserted.
This makes them generally safer to run. This is because, essentially, the MSI file type is how the entirety of Windows manages the installation, maintenance, and removal of software. Hash checks can also be included to insure integrity.
The new installer for UWP apps follow the same rules with .msixbundle type files which are usually larger in size because of all the requirements mentioned above.

  • Fixed an issue that was breaking screensharing for some users on Wayland. (bug 1841851)
  • Fixed an issue where a fullscreen notification was persistently being shown to a user, even after disabling it. (bug 1847901)
  • Fixed an issue where Firefox would hang when doing a Google search. (bug 1847066)

    A few photoshop users might still encounter issues loading old files which is expected to be resolved in bug 1848916.

Does anyone else have the same issue with version 116.0.3? In short, modifying the entries for screenshots in about:config doesn't work. I use a program for screenshots and want to disable the built-in screenshots feature in FF. Disabling the feature no longer works.

I haven't used the built in Screenshot feature yet...
not sure how to use that feature lol...
I just use print screen key or the Windows snippet tool.

.msi will install over same version. No options offered, just goes.

FWIW, the .msi will log the install in Reliability History, .exe will not. I like to see the entry.

The .exe does too as one time an install I did with .exe result in some error when loaded so I used the same .exe to install the same version as what is already insalled and it fixed the problem.

I just checked my install, which is just at 2 weeks old, and Firefox is not there. I only use the .exe installers for both Firefox and Nightly.

I am *not* looking forward to Firefox (v117.0.0),
because it breaks at least one addon/extension I use.
I still use TabMixPlus which needs a boot-loader script mod.

I went back to a stable version of Windows 11- 22621.2134. I also went back to a stable Release of Firefox 116.0.3. I will wait for Firefox 117.0.3 this time as one always comes out. (y)
