We now know the trade in offers that will be available to those with older V8, v7, and v6 one-time licences, and for recently purchased perpetual v8 licences.

If you purchased on or after July 1st, 2024, you have three options;
  • Continue using Reflect 8 for as long as you want. You will continue to have access to 12 months technical support from the date you bought the licenses.
  • Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year of support from the date of purchase) and receive a 3-year Annual Plan at no extra cost. Macrium may make loyalty offers available at the end of your 3-year term. However, even without a license, Reflect always allows you to restore/recover your data (you won’t be able to make new backups). We’ve also made your backup files open-source - it’s your data and you own it.
  • NEW: Trade in (your existing license will be deactivated after your new license is activated) your one-time license (which has one year support from the date of purchase) and receive 50% off the normal annual plan price for life (must turn on auto-renew and not allow the license to expire/lapse).
Home users have 6 months from the launch of Reflect X to decide which option suits them best. Step-by-step instructions to obtain either option from the grace period will be published this week.

For Reflect Home users who purchased V8 before July 1, 2024:
You are eligible for two options. The first option is 50% off Annual plans for life. Option 2 is our “Better than Black Friday 2024 Offer:” 3 years for the price of 2:

If you choose 50% off annual plans for life, you will have to trade in your current Reflect Home V8 license.

If you choose 3 years for the price of 2, you can keep your Reflect Home V8 license. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)

For Home V6 & V7: We are offering 3 years for the price of two. This amount must be paid up front and at the end of the plan, customers may renew based on offers available at the time (or return to your one-time license.)This offer ends March 31st 2025.

That's where I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting a 2x speed like advertised. 8.1 averaged 5 1/2 minutes to make an image. I've only shaved it by 10%. Since my subscription now gives me premium support, I plan to ask them what happened to the 2x they advertise.

I'm re-running the Full backup now, Reflect X with medium compression and no verification. The external HDD is very much my limiting factor, Task Manager shows 100% activity on the external HDD and only 25% to 50% for the CPU.

The processing may be faster for medium compression but the image is larger, 152.61GB vs 148.26GB for high compression. The time it takes to write that extra data to the HDD negates any gain from using faster compression, at least on my combination of hardware. Both took about 26 minutes to create the image.

I upgraded a spare v7 key to v8 a few days ago. I should see the option to trade this new v8 key for a 3 year Reflect X plan at no additional cost but this is not being offered. Macrium admit they are looking into this issue which should hopefully be resolved by the end of the week since they accept v7 key with a v8 upgrade applied to it is not being detected it as a purchase on or after the July 1st.

I think all they did was change the compression ratios.
Less compression would get you faster speed but larger files.

No, it's more than that. I think the changed the compression algorithms to be faster and more effective. See my comparison test (using high compression) in post #59.

The whole compression/writing process has changed. They are now using a new "streaming" method when writing to the disk. This was obtained from a Facebook developer and that's why the new image format is available publicly so that users/developers may read that DATA and do what they wish with it... the imaging format is no longer proprietary. It's a whole new scheme.

I left Acronis because of the subscription, and go look at who does the same. As long as 8 works with Windows.
I really don't like subscriptions, I call it a cash grab. By that time MS backup will maybe be up to par. :unsure:

I tested a System drive restore just now, it's MUCH faster than it was before, literally took a few seconds instead of ~30 seconds

I am using medium compression and 128 bit encryption and the file sizes between 8 and X are the same. I haven't tried compression only.

My image size on disk is about 39GB. This took about 40 seconds on 8 and takes 24 seconds on X. This is imaging from a pci- e 4.0 to pci-e 4.0 nvme drive, again with medium compression and 128 bit encryption.

The type and speed of the processor makes a lot of difference. Most processors now have compression and encryption instructions that really speed the processing up. I am on a 5.7 GHz 13900ks processor.
