As a Computer Technician I have installed Windows 11 in many machines compliant and non-compliant. Never had any issue with updates, even in non-compliant machines such as my test laptop (see 1st system specs). The reason I am at an old build is because I mostly use my main PC now (see 2nd system specs) and haven't yet found the time to update the laptop.

The dreaded message "Your PC doesn't meet the requirements to install Windows 11" appears in Windows Update on non-compliant systems to warn you that you cannot upgrade officially from Windows Update. But you can upgrade if you download the ISO and delete a specific hidden file before proceeding. See earlier posts. I have done it tens of times always successfully. After the initial upgrade all other updates install without any issue, compatibility is never checked again, unless you want to upgrade to a newer version (such as 22H2 when it will come out).

Installed Windows 11 using Try3's bypass on a Optiplex 9010 at work (Thrift store).
Took about 45 minutes, hung at 66% for about 30 minutes.
Works and looks really nice. I do like the new icons. They may be eye candy but I still like them.
Much preferable to running as a VM.

Installed all available updates and so far no problems after doing so.

As an upgrade? So you still have MSOffice 2010 Starter Edition? Does it, as I suppose, work just as well in Windows 11?
- I ask out of interest only. There are sometimes questions about 2010 Starter in TenForums.

My own Windows 11 testbed computer has still only yielded one [temporarily] useful difference.
- Windows 11 demands that Admin permission is needed to read WD Exclusions in the Registry. A long-overdue change.
- But the latest Windows 10 CU has now introduced the same change for Windows 10 anyway.

I have Office 2010 Starter running well in Windows 11 on my System One, and in Windows 10 on the machine it's OS was copied from. Office Starter 2010 was a free option, only available if your PC came with an OEM preinstalled (but unactivated) Office 2010.

Microsoft's position on Office Starter 2010 has changed over the years. Initially MS said that while Office 2010 was compatible with W10, Starter 2010 was not and should be uninstalled. However, the free upgrade to the initial 10240 build (1507) did not remove it, which was how I ended up keeping it.

Starting with build 1511 an in-place upgrade from W7 uninstalls Office Starter 2010 if it finds it. But an in-place upgrade from the previous version of W10 that has it installed does not.

I'm not sure exactly when MS changed their position, but an in-place upgrade from W7 with 2004 onwards no longer uninstalls Starter 2010.

In all cases Office Starter 2010 must be installed and activated before the upgrade to W10. It cannot be activated after the upgrade.

I cannot tell about Office 2010 Starter, but I had no problem installing Office 2007 Enterprise or Office 2010 Professional to Windows 11. You could try installing Windows 11 on a Virtual machine and then Office 2010 Starter to see what happens. The Professional version installs without any issue. Just run Setup as Administrator to give it access to write the files and Registry keys.

Spakakons - I also use Office 2007. I asked about Office 2010 Starter because it is a special case. It cannot be installed; it came as a pre-install bundled on some new computers a decade ago.

You cannot. There is no installer available for Starter 2010, it was only ever made available to OEMs. Even if one could be found then Starter 2010 can only be installed in Vista or Windows 7. Once installed though, it remains installed and working after upgrading to Windows 10, and from there to Windows 11.

Office Starter 2010 was available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to preload on Windows PCs as a replacement for Microsoft Works; it is only compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7

- I ask out of interest only. There are sometimes questions about 2010 Starter in TenForums.

My own Windows 11 testbed computer has still only yielded one [temporarily] useful difference.
- Windows 11 demands that Admin permission is needed to read WD Exclusions in the Registry. A long-overdue change.
- But the latest Windows 10 CU has now introduced the same change for Windows 10 anyway.

Well, maybe Office 2010 Starter is a special case, but from my experience so far, any application already installed in Windows 10 works without any issue after upgrading to Windows 11. A couple of old games crashed when trying to load in full screen mode due to some incompatibility with new visual effects. The fix is to right-click the game shortcut, select Properties, then go to Compatibility tab and check the box to Disable fullscreen optimization.

So does Starter 2010. The only thing special about it is that it has to be already installed before upgrading to W10 and then to W11.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. When W11 was first leaked I tested installing it on the least appropriate hardware I could find, my little Acer Aspire One D270 netbook, see post #37.

Today I revisited that using the current latest RTM build 22000.527. Still works fine, albeit a little sluggish - no 64-bit OS should be asked to run in just 2GB of RAM :ROFLMAO:

I had an Acer Aspire One A150 netbook with Intel Atom, 2GB RAM and Intel 945G Express chipset (has WDDM graphics drivers). This would be the perfect non-compliant test machine. Unfortunately I needed some money, so I sold it before I had the chance to test even Windows 10 on it. Windows 8 run fine, as was Mac IS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Next best thing for experiments is a computer with a dual core processor, such as my test laptop (see 1st system specs).
