Busted! You are trying to replace appraiserres.dll in the USB flash drive. This is not what I said. You have to replace the file in the Windows Setup cache, in the hidden folder C:\$Windows.~BT\sources\. This folder appears only when you load Setup. So you have to load Setup first, let it count to 100%, but do nothing until you replace the file. After you replace the file, proceed. When you have bypassed compatibility check and you are allowed to upgrade, please post here to confirm it still works in 24H2 for all of us interested.

This works by manually updating from the ISO. Tested in a virtual machine (see screenshots above and below).

It shouldn't make any difference where/when you replace it, but following your instructions to the letter with the same unsupported laptop and the same 26100.560 ISO it still fails in 24H2.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

The only successful way I've found so far to do an in-place upgrade is to use hybrid Win11 23H2/24H2 install media so that the appraiserres workaround can still be used.

Also if you are upgrading a Legacy BIOS installation and you must replace the 24H2 bootloader with the 23H2 bootloader to make your system bootable again. I have read that the new 24H2 bootloader doesn't support Legacy BIOS mode boot, UEFI only.

Yes. "BIOS" means "Legacy BIOS" or CSM (Compatibility Support Module)

Rufus settings to create BIOS bootable media:

"Partition scheme" - "GPT"
- Installing Windows on a GPT disk (UEFI/GPT installation).
- If you try a BIOS/MBR installation from a USB stick, you get an error message created by Rufus: "ERROR: BIOS/LEGACY BOOT OF UEFI-ONLY MEDIA."

"Partition scheme" - "MBR"
- Installing Windows on an MBR disk (BIOS/MBR installation).

Check the "Remove requirement for 4GB RAM, Secure Boot, and TPM 2.0" option.

Windows 10/11 installs in the way that the USB is booted into.

Installing with UEFI/GPT.
1. Boot the USB using UEFI mode (in the boot menu, select your USB with the UEFI prefix).
2. On the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen, delete all partitions until just unallocated space is showing, and then click "Next".
3. Setup detects that the computer was booted into UEFI mode, and reformats the drive using the GPT drive format, and begins the installation.

Installing with BIOS/MBR.
- Note that you cannot install Windows 11 in BIOS mode unless you bypass the Windows 11 system requirements.
1. Boot the USB using BIOS mode (in the boot menu, select your USB without the UEFI prefix).
2. On the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen, delete all partitions until just unallocated space is showing, and then click "Next".
3. Setup detects that the computer was booted into BIOS mode, and reformats the drive using the MBR drive format, and begins the installation.

Microsoft: On the boot device menu, select the command that identifies both the firmware mode and the device. You might see separate commands for the same device. Each command uses the same device and media, but boots the computer in a different firmware mode. After Windows is installed, the device boots automatically using the same mode it was installed with.

Yes, I know how to create an MBR (Legacy BIOS mode) USB flash drive with Rufus. The question remains, are you sure it applies to 24H2? I guess I will find out myself in a couple of months.

Hi, everybody.
I'm trying to install Windows 11 22H2, but I can't using Windows Update: Windows 11 processor is not supported.
My Laptop Model is: Toshiba Satellite Pro A50-D-14U
Could anybody help me, please? Thanks

You have to bypass compatibility check only when upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 or from an old Windows 11 version to a newer version. All other updates don't check compatibility, they all install automatically if you run Windows Update and let it proceed. Also you have to bypass compatibility check once before a clean installation, then you can run Windows Update as many times as you like, no more checking. The only difference to a compliant PC is that you won't be offered to upgrade to the next build (the only case compatibility is checked) through Windows Update. You must download the new version ISO manually and bypass compatibility check once more to upgrade. See relevant threads.

4 To Upgrade to Windows 11 with an ISO file
A) If you have not already, you will need to download a Windows 11 ISO file.
B) In Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11, mount the ISO file, and go to step 6 below.

If you need to bypass Windows 11 system requirements, then you can run the command below in an elevated command prompt instead.

<full path of setup.exe file> /product server

For example: D:\setup.exe /product server

If the above command no longer works for you, then try the command below instead:

<full path of setupprep.exe file in sources folder> /product server

For example: D:\sources\setupprep.exe /product server

You can still install Windows 11 using a bypass.

Get HWINFO, which is a free utility that can tell you exactly what you have in your laptop.
