Let's install Windows 11 on incompatible hardware


Compatibility report: In Windows 10 and Windows 11 up to 23H2 you could create a shortcut with this code at the target and load the "traditional" System Properties (the familiar one from Windows 7). After the upgrade to 24H2 if I double-click this shortcut it opens the modern Settings->System->About page instead. Any way to use the "traditional" System Properties again? I don't use it a lot, but it looks much nicer than the plain modern About page.

Here is how the "traditional" System Properties looked like in 23H2:

It still works if you create a folder on the Desktop, name it System.{BB06C0E4-D293-4f75-8A90-CB05B6477EEE} and double-click on that.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

OK... I'm DL'ing WiN11ET 23H2. I have 24H2ET already in a folder. Now if I replace the WIN install file with the one in 23H2 what would happen? My guess is just install 23H2

Edit I meant the opposite of what I just said lol by replacing the wim in 23H2

You will be using the 23H2 version of Windows 11 Setup (all known hacks work) to install 24H2.

Neither do I, I don't think MS included that in 24H2. The default logo for 23H2 still said Windows 10, anyway :D

I have error 0x800736b3 when trying to install KB5044284. I don't know how to solve it, the only option is probably to wait for ISO 26100.2033 and update via iso.

OK so... I replaced the wim install with the 23H2 but isn't the install the actual setup (the main os installer) look I even replaced the setup exe and I got errors ofc. Even the boot wim as well at one point

It's not going to work if you simply copy all the files from the ISO to the USB. You must first open the 23H2 with Rufus and create a proper bootable USB flash drive. Then you replace the install.wim from the 24H2 ISO

You create the USB with Rufus and replace only a single file sources\install.wim from the 24H2 ISO. You can optionally copy some drivers to the USB as well.

In a clean install, there is another way to bypass the system requirements.

Download the media creation tool to make both UEFI and BIOS bootable Windows 11 24H2 USB stick.

Create the .reg file below and then copy the file to a USB stick.

I avoid downloading the ISO from third-party sites. I prefer the official ISO from Microsoft. I would use UUP Dump only to download Insider versions.

I just create my own. I download the released version from Microsoft as an ISO image (26100.1742) and then add the updates to generate the most recent build (26100.2033). This way I use no third-party utilities, I know that the resulting ISO was built "correctly", and I always have a full ISO image of the very latest build :-). I realize that practically nobody does it that way, but it works for me.
