@jimbo45 - Thanks anyway but that major geeks download results in installing v7675, which is what I finished up with after installing what I thought was v7690.

If you see the photo it shows v7690 / v7675 and states it is 'Freemium'. I am hoping it will revert to MR Free version after the 30-Day trial.

I opened up MR Free Version and clicked on the "Update" button and it downloaded and installed the latest free update.

If you ended up installing the v8.1.7675 trial then no, it doesn't revert to Free after 30 days. With any v8.1.nnnn trial version it reverts to a 'RESTORE ONLY' version when the trial ends.

There's no need to go to sites like MajorGeeks (not that there's anything wrong with them). It's just that you can still get the latest Reflect Free direct from Macrium using their Reflect Free v8.0 Download Agent:

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Should be available for quite some time. If you change 'v8' in that url to 'v7' then you can still get the Reflect Free v7 download agent. I've just tried it and confirmed that it's still up there on their servers ;)

@Bree - The link in your post #24 caused version 8.1.7675 package downloader to be downloaded. See photo. This is not Free so I did not continue with that. Instead I followed your suggestion in post #26 and changed v8 to v7 in the URL and that gave me downloader v7.3.6391 so I installed that.

Even though I have had to go backwards (from v8.0.7279 to v7.3.6391) at least I now have a Free version again and the rescue media can now load again (see my post #15).

The downside of going backwards is that I am now being prompted to update to v8 but I am now afraid to do so in case it installs the version v8.0.7690 that caused the problem in my post #15. I don't suppose one is able to pick the exact version you want to install? In my case v8.0.7279 was okay but not v8.0.7690.

I'll play safe and ignore update prompts and stay with v7.3.6391. At least it works.

Did you not create an iso of 7279?

If so, you can manually create a rescue usb and a boot partition. You can even have multiple versions to boot from.

Yes, 8.1 is the version of the Download Agent - confusing, I know, but that has nothing to do with the version of Reflect it will download. The name ReflectDLHF.exe tells you what it's for, the letters at the end stand for DownLoad Home Free. Run it and you will see that the only version it offers to download is Reflect Free. And what it downloads will be the latest version of Reflect Free v8.0.

The Download Agent will always download the latest available installer of Reflect. But if you know the right url to use you can directly download older versions of the installer from the Macrium servers. This is the link for the Reflect Free v8.0.7279 installer that you are looking for.

Sorry I have been absent. Solving this has involved hours of work that stopped me revisiting until now but I am now sorted. Thanks for all replies.

I finished up going to the UpToDown website Uptodown.com and then searched for 'Macrium Reflect Free' and selected 'Older versions'. This allowed me to download the actual installer for v8.0.7279 (rather than a download agent). See photo. This solved 90% of the issue because booting up from the v7279 caused splash screen for v7.3.6391 to appear? See photo. Solved it by recreating the rescue media from scratch rather than rebuilding the existing media. All okay now. Macrium Free is now v8.0.7279 and boot devices (I have two) launch correct version of WinPE as they should. It has taken me about 14 hours of work to get back to where I was before Macrium update to v8.0.7690 caused me hell.

@cereberus - I have now got the v8.0.7279 executable so that will get backed up from now on. :-)

It would have been a lot easier to just have bought the paid version. God knows the number of people in this forum who have benefited from the software, this surely makes it worthwhile and in any event, why should developers of such software not be paid for their efforts?

I am kinda curious about this error. Netsh.exe is a Windows function and not a MR application. If the error is indeed caused by Netsh.exe then perhaps something MR is doing calling Netsh.exe, which is a command line tool, which makes me think this is a Windows issue and not MR. Maybe you need to troubleshoot the Netsh.exe error itself instead of going the MR troubleshooting route. Just my .02 cents worth.

All I know is that the netsh.exe error happened after updating to v8.0.7690 and it no longer happens after I reinstalled the previous version v8.0.7279.

@SIW2 - Thanks, I'll look into that Macrium KB article about disabling WiFi Support. Makes me wonder why WiFi Support is needed at all when one is restoring from a USB connected recovery device? Does anyone know?
