Macrium Reflect free edition 8.0.7690 update


@trevo - I intend to buy when I am able to afford the £116 needed to buy 2 licenses. They used to offer a discount but now that only applies if buying 4 licences. Also there is no gaurantee that the same thing won't happen with a paid-for version. It's a known issue. That's why the KB article has been written.

@SIW2 - Thanks, I'll look into that Macrium KB article about disabling WiFi Support. Makes me wonder why WiFi Support is needed at all when one is restoring from a USB connected recovery device? Does anyone know?

The wifi support is for backup.

You can backup pc to a second pc using wifi. This is very convenient for drives with low storage e.g. emmc devices.

I backup my travel laptop over wifi to an nvme drive on main pc with lots of capacity - it is more convenient for me than using external hard drives.

It would be nice if you could restore over wifi but that is not possible afaik - mind you never tried it.

So, in my case where I only use USB connected devices (No WiFi) for backups then I can safely disable WiFi support in the WIM Build Options as per the KB article?

Final update - I took the chance and updated to the latest Free version v8.0.7690 again. This time I disabled 'Add WiFi Support' in the WIM Build Options and it seems to have worked. Thanks @SIW2 . Apart from having to recreate one my rescue devices from scratch both my Rescue Media devices now boot correctly and so I'm a happy chap again.
In case it helps anyone else the reason I had to recreate the rescue media from scratch is that some bug when updating an existing Rescue Media 'Build' caused it to launch v8.0.7279 environment even though it was built with v8.0.7690.

Regarding buying Macrium. They usually run a great sale for the American Black Friday in November. (Fourth Thursday of November.)


Regarding restoring over wifi, yes it works. Lots of laptops not coming with wired nic and they use a NAS to store backups. (Describes my wife's set up.)

There has always been a discount on buying a 4-pack of licences. This is not a special offer, it's a permanent part of their pricing structure....

The Black Friday discount up until now has always been 50% across the board, covering the single and 4-pack licences. The offer usually runs from Black Friday until 1st December. I initially bought my 4-pack of v7 licences on a Black Friday, and later upgraded them to v8 at a 50% discount.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. Regrettably the discount is only 25% on a purchase of 4 licences now i.e. licences for price of three.

As for the black Friday discount, I have a feeling it will not be so generous - we will have to wait and see.
