reading your technical arguments it really makes a sense to skip Macrium ... and sounds like really kiddish tool compare to acronis.

Just wondering in case i want to virtualise phy hw to vmware i assume one can do image backup; boot rescue media within vmware and "restore" to vmware "virtual hdd" and might work?

still after reading your points i dont get why ppl prefer Macrium, i read that ppl mentioned that acronis restore failed multiple times... and macrium never... so thats why i was thinking about macrium.

For things like that, I recommend using the MVP Custom PE Builder script tool to create your own custom bootable (WinPE based) Rescue Media ISO of Acronis True Image 2021 / Cyber Protect Home Office.

@hdmi okay seems its also possible, in that case i am serious struggling to find some serious technical arguments that can clarify that Macrium is the best/better then Acronis.

Still not sure about discussions, how arcronis restore failed and marcrium restore failed never.

Have you tried replying to an old post - the advice is obvious - consider starting a new thread if old post has not had a reply in over 30 days. The post is over 30 days old is the fact!

The advice was added, primarily because new users were replying to posts often as much as a year old. In many cases, the replies were giving "technical solutions" which is absurd after a year or more - in part, the problem is exacerbated because the original posters do not close out thread, or worse do not even reply in some cases.

Unfortunately, once a thread gets reopened, people start replying based on last couple of posts but never really go back and read history. In part, that is because threads can get very long.

No point in discussing anymore - if you wish to ignore site advice, that is your prerogative.

AFAIK all complaints about Acronis failing to restore boil down to one thing only: they all installed Acronis True Image and used that to create their image with, i.e. as opposed to used (either the Linux based or the WinPE based) bootable Rescue Media for this task. In the vast majority of cases, they also don't give you any useful specifics (or they barely do) about what exactly it was that they did, kind of like saying "I'm going to buy a Mac or stick to Linux because Windows refused to work". OF COURSE Windows doesn't work. Before it can work, you have to state the nature of your psychiatric emergency. LOL

If something is recommended without any evidence its nonsense.
Whats the point to create a new thread?

@hdmi i thought it doesnt matter if u use linux based or winpe based bootable rescue media or the one u create directly from Acronis. Maybe i was wrong.

I'm not so sure why all the noise about people reviving an old thread, and especially if the info is relevant. If anything, I'd think the mods would encourage this considering it reduces clutter of the same posts over and over again. Add there is also a reason why the "search" feature exists.

It only matters in terms of driver support (Linux vs WinRE/WinPE), aside from the fact that MVP Custom PE Builder script tool can only be used to customize the WinPE based version of the bootable Rescue Media─as the 'PE' in 'MVP Custom PE Builder script tool' suggests. But anyway, the Linux based version of the bootable Rescue Media ISO file of Acronis True Image 2021 is here:

That said, I haven't tried restoring an image to a VM, as I never really felt the need to run a VM. What I do instead is I run Sandboxie-Plus with multiple sandboxes some of which are located on a ramdisk using Romex Primo Ramdisk with SCSI, NTFS, Dynamic Memory Management (DMM), Compact Mode. It ticks all my boxes so, the Linux based one is what I'll use for when my Windows installation gets shot to pieces─which it actually never does, but knowing Microsoft maybe it still suddenly might do that one day. Or if my SSD rolls itself over on its back and dies. I mean, I could always decide to just do a clean install instead of restoring a recent system image of course. It's just that after a clean install it takes such an awful long time to finish up with numerous settings and tweaks having to be applied again.

No, but I used Acronis for years. It is good backup software.
It's also very bloated now. It runs 2 or 3 times the Services and Processes that Macrium does.

And you know what they say... "a picture is worth (count, count, count), thirty words".

Bloated or not, it gets the job done well. Restores go flawlessly for me.

Same here. Been using it for years, still do, because it gets the job done flawlessly. The "bloat" noises is simply that.... noise.

At any rate my attitude is use what works best for you and ignore the naysayers noise. For me, I use both: Acronis for backups. Macrium only if I need an "Image", which I rarely do. With that Acronis is my primary backup software. Works like a champ, and why I still use it.
