Microsoft at it again - Copilot

Both my wife's and my computers were updated yesterday. Good - no issue with that. But why add Copilot to Word?
We both find that on opening a new document in Word (and possibly elsewhere - haven't checked other things) this appears when I open anew document.
We do not want it. How do I get rid of it? Googling for an answer does not find one that works.

The fact is that if you use Microsoft products, you will have Co-pilot AI shoved at you whether you want it or not. Microsoft has nailed its colours (or money) to the mast of the good ship Artificial Intelligence.
I don't think it's ready for mainstream general use yet. There are specific uses where it is very helpful - I'm thinking of enhancing image quality, or analysing X-rays for instance. Generalized applications however are still very hit-or-miss.

Try this

Open Word.
Click on File > Options.
Navigate to the Add-ins tab.
Look for any add-ins related to Copilot in the list.
Select the add-in and click Remove or Disable, depending on the option available.

To turn off Copilot in Microsoft 365, open the application you want to disable it in (like Word or Excel), go to File > Options > Copilot, and then uncheck the "Enable Copilot" box

I was able to find the switch off tick box under File - Options - Copilot
@kelper - from the text on pseymour's link, it has been moved from Add-ins and given its own heading as from yesterday, 16 January! In my version of Office 365 that is where it is.

Yeah, when I worked as a farm hand, as much as I thought about it, there was no escaping having to use the Burdizzo emasculatome. I wish it would of just worked with my doing math in my head and contemplating TAO. But, alas…

If seeking specific info I find a well phrased question gets a useful and concise answer using ChstGPT. Google search returns lots of waffle.

I think the point is that you can do it a lot quicker using AI, however you then have to waste at least an equal amount of time as you would have spent doing it yourself, checking whether AI has made any stupid mistakes. For those with much lower standards (think some social media posters for example) there is no time spent checking and they have saved a lot of time and effort. The fact that they then post rubbish is indistinguishable to what they usually do anyway!

@kelper I agree that it does seem to be good at finding the relevant answers, but the question you will never know the answer to is what has it ignored?

Of course Human Intelligence can usually do stuff but especially where 100,000's or more calculations / routine operations etc are required the time taken will be so much larger apart from likelyhood of errors etc.

A.I isn't yet (or probably would never be) capable of solving such problems as Fermat's last theorem etc, as this requires a huge guess into something not even seemingly remotely connected to the original problem.

What I would find very useful is for MS to provide an AI tool to analyse what has failed when your Windows installation goes wrong and generates an error message. Then provide a fix which resolves the issue. (Unless it is a hardware problem, of course). Unfortunately if they ever were to implement such a useful system, it would make Eleven Forum redundant!
