Microsoft Edge


I have ditched Edge because of it's repeated updates which slow down the laptop, I use FF and Google chrome :D

I am already being fed up with Edge, 3 strikes and it is out.

1. strike - when I start YouTube and I switch the tab, it pauses it, ALWAYS, turning on background apps does not help.
2. strike - I have decided to use it's password manager, because of security, but it is a pain. When I want to open webpage not in favorites, I have to type it, because it uses a strange alphabetical order and besides, I login to some webpages with FB/Google and I can not save those. It also has no categories, so it just a big huge pile of webpages. Hopefully MS will improve it, soooon.
3. strike - it censors (blocked video)? But it might have been it's adblocker, so I give it the benefit of the doubt, for now.

It doesn't pause YT for me when switching tabs so must be a setting somewhere. These are my Optimise Performance settings. Might be something else though.

I'm scared of extensions. Everyone is stealing data these days. So I use browser compartmentalization to keep cross-tracking to a minimum.

Even within each browser, I have multiple profiles.

For YouTube site, I use Enhancer for YouTube.

And dns.adguard.com as the DNS provider.

This is my response to EDGE. (I made FULL backups of Windows before trying this.)


Problems with Edge

Is anyone having issues with Edge ? All of a sudden it`s not opening the 3 webpages I have it set to open, even though they are still listed properly in Settings. And when I uncheck Get all Notifications on the main page, and close the window and reopen it again, the Get all Notifications is...

I'm using the Canary builds of Edge to test on my Insider builds. I still prefer Firefox and have it set as my default browser.

Edge is the most bloated browser I've ever seen. So many things that I didn't care about I had to uncheck. Oh, and I just now looked at it again for the heck of it and I swear I unchecked everything in my interests but still getting notifications for those things....which I have to uncheck. I won't personally use it.

Firefox is still my default browser and Edge still will not open in Windows 11.

When I type an URL into the search bar, Firefox will navigate to it without Edge butting in.

And yes, Edge is "installed".

I used Chrome for years. I tried Edge a year ago. I switched to Edge. All my extensions work and it's faster than Chrome. I'm nicely synchronized on all my computers and with Edge running on my new Pixel 6 Pro, I'm a convert. I like Edge.

I stopped using Google Chrome and started using Microsoft Edge. My browser became faster and used fewer resources. This caused me to have much happiness. ;)

Do u know a way to disable this thing? I have Chrono download manager so I don't need/want it
I tried hiding it but everytime i download something, it shows up and i have to click on that button to close/hide it

Open Edge settings. Go to appearance and turn off downloads button.

Also these settings in Edge
Reopen settings in Edge and scroll down to downloads. Uncheck options there.

Ask me what to do with each download
Always ask me if I want to save a file or open it without savin

Open Office files in the browser
If this setting is on, Office files (presentations, spreadsheets, documents) will open automatically in Microsoft Edge instead of downloading to your device

Show downloads menu when a download starts
Turning off this setting can make it harder to know when a file starts downloading
