Everything is so simple on Windows:- Just 1000 simple things to do in the right order (Sorry rant over).
Looks that I can now go ahead with my plan, adding in the way to turn off the relevant parts of ZANG.
Before I start, are there any other Apps that I need to be aware of, that might need the same or similar treatment as that for ZANG?
It's getting pretty late where you are. If you would rather finish this conversation
tomorrow or latter then , we could start over at another time. I don't know if
you have to work tomorrow but, it might be better to start fresh. What do you think?

If this is the only security app installed then, no. Windows Defender will not
interfere.
So, when I said the earliest time for the restore point, (I know what you mean now) I meant
the one closest to the date of the Windows updates and not the earliest date meaning the latter ones like
from the 18th of February (for me).
Choose the restore point that has the same date or just a day before if possible to give it a better chance
of success.

Wife is annoyed as Dinner is ready.
I have an appointment late morning, but can spend some time before that (but you will be in bed), I will start again tomorrow 13:00 UK time.
Thank you all for all your efforts so far.

You're pretty lucky that you have a Wife to make Dinner.
OK, I might not be here at that time but, will be in a bit
after lunch (my time).
It's been a group effort but, you're welcome.
You said Exit and I said Disable. In Startup apps there is an option to Disable an app. I just looked and my security program has the option to disable it which should stop it from starting when I restart my computer.
Thank you all for your help today and tell you all about my beer I had with my dinner.
It's 'Very Bad Elf', one of my favourite beers at 7.5% by volume.
The bottle says the following.
...
"Is it just my imagination" queried old Santa surveying the scene,
or my Elf only getting worse and worse every year? What's next
Seriously bad Elf, I'll wager. Mark my words."
This Very Bad Elf is one fine ale - rich, hardy, and flavorful, brewed to an original 1795
Thames Valley recipe, with a very special pale amber malt that is rarely used nowadays,
and balanced by a modest addition of English Fuggle aroma hops.
'Ere's to your elf!

So, I was wondering why the second KB was installed as I don't see it in updates.
The KB5034848 got installed correctly as you have the right winver version.
But, the other KB5035226 from what I've been able to understand is for the BETA
channel and you shouldn't of been offered it.
This is from a German site and translated by Google (who else)
For the Servicing Stack, Stuck Update SSU it is kb5035226
I'm pretty sure that this is the offending update.

I was surprised that no one picked up on that earlier, as I couldn't find any reference to it - so well done you.
Also when talking to my wife yesterday (she doesn't understand or like computers), I just mentioned the basic symptoms, and she said that she had the 'Lost Taskbar' on (mainly) her computer at our shop. I quickly asked what happened and she said the problem went away after many reboots.
Many reboots hasn't helped on my PC and the main difference is that 'hers' is Win 11 Home and mine is Win 11 Pro.
I mention this just in case it is relevant to other readers.
Strange though as on my PC the offending update installed automatically.
I've had a quick look at trying the latest attempt to disable Zone Alarm Next Generation.
'Task Master'> 'Control Panel' Ok, BUT the search for "shell:AppsFolder" gives nothing found.
I did however discover that the 'up arrow' at the top of Control Panel takes me to 'My PC',
so that must help in some way.
Unfortunately I have to rush off to an appointment and won't be back to my PC till about 13:00 (UK time).
When you press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, then when you choose Run new task, in the box that appears you can just type explorer shell:appsfolder (and press the Enter key).
P.S., As a matter of fact, explorer can be omitted, even. So it works just as well if you just type shell:appsfolder in there before you press the Enter key. It's actually pretty neat, isn't it?
That has been bothering me since you mentioned it but, had other things to explain so, it
got left to the back burner. Yesterday after my "Caribou breakfast", I did a search and found
only three entries in Google referring to this update. This is the German site that had the
info I was looking for :
Hallo. Kann mir jemand erklären, was das bedeutet?
www.drwindows.de
Post #4. If anyone can decipher the German Language it would be helpful. I tried the Google
Translate a few times and it comes back with different versions of it so, if anyone can take a look
and do a actual translation, I would appreciate it.
These were the only ones that came back from my search.
Also, if anyone using the Canary channel or the Beta channel , could you verify if this update is in
the update history of your settings pls.

I'm currently running a build 22631.3227! For the RP channel not for the beta...
The KB number for the LCU is kb5034848.
For the Servicing Stuck Update SSU it is kb5035226.
Hello Bernd and Alice....
Could it be that this is about Outlook for Windows?!?
You will have to Press on the Enter key after you enter or type Control Panel.
After you have Control Panel up, Highlight the name Control Panel in the
search box and then Press on the Backspace key on the keyboard to get rid of it.
Now, in the same search box, type shell:AppsFolder with NO quotation marks.
Press the Enter key on the keyboard again. You should see all of the installed
apps in that explorer window. Scroll down to Zone Alarm and right click on it
and choose to Run as Admin. The program should come up.
Opened Win 11 this morning and there was an update to windows, which I downloaded and started the installation.
This lasted so long, I rebooted the PC (held button down 4 seconds) and when it re-loaded, the Windows Toolbar was missing.
Have used SFC, DISM, DSKCHK to see if there are any problems with the system - None.
Have looked at some different options from the Internet, to no avail.
Has anybody got some ideas on what the problem might be.
At one point I saw a message about 'ms-settings' not having an App, so this might be a good starting point.
Any idea how to progress this please?
It might be neat on a working machine, BUT not when it doesn't work on my broken one.
Note I said in #72 that I can get to 'MyPC', if that is useful to get to disable ZANG.

Sincere apologies - I was wrong, It does work, BUT only if the 'create as Administrator' box is NOT TICKED.
I will try and pursue this further and let you know how it goes.
