Need to upgrade wife's PC to allow Windows 11

My wife's PC runs on Windows 10 as it will not accept Windows 11. She only uses it for basic office functions using Office 365, accessing internet and looking at photos sent by family, ie Not a high power user!
PC's basic specs are -
AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with Radon Vega Graphics
Mobo - ASUSTek A320M-K
Memory - 8GB
The VDU is an Asus 21" one

Her options are a new PC, or a new CPU and possibly motherboard.
My daughter suggested a laptop (using the existing external keyboard she is used to) but that would mean a smaller screen which she wouldn't like.

I stopped keeping up on Mobos and CPUs a few years ago after I bought myself a high power machine intended to probably last me out, so I am totally out of touch on possible upgrade paths. So I'd welcome suggestions.

buy her a new PC for Christmas!

Might want to look at a BEELINK

They also have Intel versions, called: NUC

Even a 90 yr old can carry one of these. :-)

They ofc, have various price ranges for both AMD and Intel versions.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your suggestion.

Unfortunately my wife is not in the least enamoured with computers, in many ways viewing them as a necessary evil. So I wish to avoid any more changes than essential. A new OS, however close to Windows, could well be a step too far!

What is wrong with the old one, Ian? If all your wife does is use Office 365, accesses internet and looks at photos sent by family, why do you need a new one?

What is wrong with the old one, Ian?
Nothing other than the fact that it won't run Windows 11. Because a message popped up a couple of weeks ago on her monitor about Windows 10 being phased out, I mistakenly though it was this year, not in 15 months or so. That is why I posted the OP.

Having been corrected by PParks1 re the withdrawal date, I think I will defer any decision until our next birthdays in June next year!

I think you misunderstood or interpreted, Tiny11 is a lightweight Safe Version of Windows11 but without Hardware requirements.

Hi! Maggnetta.
Yes I noticed that after the fact, still, this is the last PC they may buy. There would be a slight learning curb for the OS, possibly? Hence the laptop with a standard Win 11 and ready for 12 maybe (y)🙏

(I’m going to check Tiny11 OS out, thanks)

I have a question. Is this OS ethical, meaning it doesn’t bypass licensing requirements does it? Why does it have a content warning when you open the link?

I have a question. Is this OS ethical, meaning it doesn’t bypass licensing requirements does it? Why does it have a content warning when you open the link?
It's a modified Windows installer. To me, that's no more or less ethical than Segura's OSDBuilder or Donna's WIMWitch, except the dev here is focused on making the build smaller. This person (@ntdev@mastodon.social or @NTDEV_ on X, by the way), is known for pushing the limits of making Windows run on low-end devices.

I know nothing about the builds on archive.org or wherever you get them these days, but if I were wanting to try this, I'd use the dev's own builder and roll my own ISO based off a real Microsoft one. GitHub - ntdevlabs/tiny11builder: Scripts to build a trimmed-down Windows 11 image.

And by the way, the dev has said, "At it’s core, tiny11 is designed to bring new life to old computers, so I don’t encourage installing it on PCs that support Windows 11 by default. This doesn’t mean that I don’t trust my product, but at one point the disadvantages outweigh the benefits."

This post isn't meant to be pro- or anti-Tiny11, merely informative. So don't tweet me or email me or call me. :)

I have a question. Is this OS ethical, meaning it doesn’t bypass licensing requirements does it? Why does it have a content warning when you open the link?
I'm using it on my laptop, it has the same ToS I believe, but it comes debloated.
AND you don't need a Microsoft account to use it.
You can stay signed out of Email, but still use the OS.

Eh.....Just wanted to give him/her the chance to prove his/her statement as true. You are right, though, they probably won't respond to the challenge.

I got told I advised illegal activation. Huh? The 26100 RTM is activated by Microsoft and not by a hack. If it was a hack, of course its against forum rules!

That applies not just to Windows Pro but to Windows LTSC, Just to clarify, if someone wants to upgrade to the official build, when the latter comes out later this year, they should obtain with it the new required volume licence at the time.

Just in case, the mods misunderstood, I wasn't advocating or condoning piracy. If you think I've acted outside the bounds, message me first.

Staying within all the ropes, ties and limitations imposed by this forum (rules), I would take that Win 10 PC and do a Deep Cleaning on it, plus a few tweaks of my own and have a great running PC (the specs look Great!) for as far into the future as the owners needed.
Change the CMOS battery and clean the fans!

OH yes, it certainly WILL run Windows 11, even 24H2, but why bother?

Cheers Mates!

Good to see you again, MageMeister. We are the Johnny-come-latelys to the party on this thread and the host has left the party. Not that it matters as others might benefit from reading this thread. (Oddly enough, stranger things have happened.) I concur. If I were in that gentleman's shoes I'd likely do exactly what you suggested here. I'd likely also SHUT OFF Windows Update as well.

Windows has proven itself so shaky with its latest updates, generating instabilities and security issues so bad that the latter state is worse than the previous, that rolling with a reliable VS and just shutting off the updates is likely a better approach in consideration of all the misery Microsoft is generating these days for the want of a nail. That proverbial "nail" of course, is AI and we, the trusting end users are the guinea pigs. What do they care if they mess up our PCs in the process of Josef mangling "our" operating systems? Bleeding edge, real world, real time data is of the essence.

BUT HEY . . .

In the interests of research and development there is a place for this. I'm thinking of doing a little exploration myself. After all, surgery also has its merits. There is so much about Win 11 that I can do without so I say bring on the ROGUE operating systems and the LITE versions of the genuine and authentic abominations. They certainly can't be much worse than what Windows/Microsoft has been doing with us all along. I'm just keeping it real. :shawn:

Not quite! Still monitoring thread, or at least the forum is and emailing me when something new appears.
My initial question has been well answered and I am glad to see that it sparked some debate.

Good to know! TechnoMage2021 is in your age group and he rebuilds older PCs and gets them running as good as when they were first purchased or better. I'm sure he'd be happy to help you privately with your dilemma. Just shoot him a private message and the two of you can take it from there. He's very good at what he does and I've seen many pictures of his work so I know he's legit.

Don't let your age discourage you. I'm not as old as you or the MageMeister but I can already see how the arthritis is slowing me down. Even so I still build and repair PCs. Just take your time and have fun with it. You've done this before. You can do it again. In fact PCs have never been easier to put together nowadays. We don't have to worry so much about static sensitive chips like we used to. We rarely ever have to solder anything. It just all clicks and screws together. I think you would enjoy building a new PC for your wife. Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

I agree that I could build a new one, and your comment re static no longer being such an issue is reassuring - that was always a worry despite my earthing everything in sight including myself and the cat!
The argument against self build is manual dexterity. I have just built myself (or rather my garden pond fish) a water level alarm after a near miss. Fortunately they (the fish) had the sense to head for the deepest part of the pond. But I did find it harder than I expected - fiddly and took longer than it should have.
