An M2 port can be SATA III interface and PCIe interface. The M2 drive you bought should be compatible with the interface of the port in your PC.
My M/B (Asus H97 PRO) has one M2 port and it can be configured as SATA III or PCIe interface depending on what type of M2 drive I fit in. The interface type is selected in BIOS.

So check the M2 port in your PC and the drive you bought. If they are of different interface, the drive cannot be recognized.
Hope this helps.
