Same here. Installed update yesterday and rebooted, new symbols were downloaded and all worked as it should.

I got the same problem with 22000.918. I tried EP 22622.450.50.2 and EP 22000.795.48.2, and waited after rebooting; but it doesn't seem to recover from black screens (i.e., it probably doesn't download any symbols). How would I know or make sure EP will update the symbols?

Dev 25193.1000 completely killed EP

Can't even get to the desktop. Uninstalling from the command line is the only way to get back into the computer.

Press control+alt+del go task manager
Under Processes, click Run New Task at the top, then type cmd
cd c:\program files\ExplorerPatcher
then run ep_setup.exe /uninstall

Very sad day.

Had the same issue. Took me a while to "figure out" that it was explorer patcher and uninstall it. As soon as it uninstalled, Explorer activity continued and within a few seconds the Desktop showed up again. Awaiting update / hoping for a patch soon !

Explorer Patcher v22622.450.50.2 [2022-08-07] is working just fine for me on W11 Pro v22H2 Build 22622.440, but there is a setting
EP > Properties > Advanced
Enable Symbols Download

It's usually set by default, I'd check, but I very much doubt your issue is related to symbol downloads with latest EP version. See

Though Documentation is a little outdated, from Jan 2022, , it's clearly stated

For example, the current ExplorerPatcher version is 22000.348.39.0. That means it was tested and confirmed to work up to Windows 11 build 22000.348. It also contains built-in symbol data information up to that build, so no symbol data download is necessary when using that build, it will automatically use what it has built-in.

My understanding is;
Your W11 Build 22000.918
EP 22000.795.48.2
would need to download the Symbols but current release
EP 22622.450.50.2
Would have them built in, and that suggests the issue may lie elsewhere
but in any case enabling Console (on a Restart Explorer) should tell you if it downloaded any
Console output gives this info at start, and may help pinpoint your issue

I set the console output entry, and installed 50.2 again. The output actually didn't mention "loaded symbols":

Anyone have a good solution for updates on non-privileged accounts?

We're using this at work to roll out Windows 11 without confusing everyone with the new UI. All well and good, but some of our certifications require us to have users running unprivileged accounts (i.e. no local admin rights). So every time there's an update, users are faced with an elevation request and we have to type in a domain admin username and password for them. This gets confusing and frustrating for the users and tedious for us!

We use Chocolatey for a lot of stuff so that software just quietly updates in the background via Task Scheduler. EP isn't on there however.

Any similar solutions?

I recommend using SuRun. This software is a replacement for UAC, it works extremely well, everything is configurable. SuRun

Another big thanks to Valinet. Just upgraded to 22H2 and EP works fine. Needed to get the most up to date pre-release version of EP and a few tray icon click settings tweaks and all is great

I encountered a problem with this app: it seems to cause a bug in the settings (of Windows OS), particularly the Lock Screen subsection. It hangs when I press it, and ultimately the settings app shuts down. Before ExplorerPatcher this problem never existed. The rest of the settings functions seem to work as normal tho.

What's going on?

I'm on 22621.382. you have DL from Microsoft and proceed to upgrade by Extracting the ISO into a Folder. If your on Legacy HW then use RuFus to create a USB then just use the Bypass then... open the setup once done

I didn't have that Issue with the earlier builds... (Probably a Graphics Driver issue)
