Norton Ghost v15.0 is running on Windows 11

I've been using Ghost 15.0 for Windows 10 for 6 years now. It's been flawless for me. However, in the last two months I'm having trouble creating an image of my system drive. The program can still backup my other drives, but something must have changed for the C: drive to not back up anymore. I searched the threads to see if anyone was still using the program and was happy to see this. Do you guys have any thoughts why only 2 of my 3 drives will back up? Thanks!

Nuke your installation of NG.

Install Macrium Reflect Free.

I expect the OP will soon be saying he's running XTREE GOLD on his pc for file browsing and using command line browsing for the Internet.
Why on earth wold anybody even THINK of using NG -- especially with excellent free products around like Macrium free and gparted.

Well I am the OP of this thread and you are wrong! The OP was created just to show my surprise that NG 15.0 was actually running on Windows 11, nor was I condoning it's use. Matter of fact, I've never been a Norton Ghost user but remember seeing some posts stating how much they missed using NG as it was their favorite backup program etc.... BTW, I've also never used XTREE GOLD! lol

But in all seriousness, the latest iteration of what was Ghost (Veritas System Recovery 22) works just fine so long as you do not need to boot the recovery media on a high DPI system without a CSM enabled.

The problem with running no longer supported tools is precisely that - they work fine until they don't and at that point, you are snookered as you cannot get support.

When it comes to image backups, support is paramount e.g. as for Macrium Reflect.

Ok, support for free version of Reflect is not directly available but it is regularly updated.

Very true. Ghost 15 is ancient - MANY years old, 2010 vintage. The current iteration (Veritas System Recovery 22) fully supports Windows 11, but I still prefer Macrium Reflect by a huge margin!

Ignorance must be Bliss, because there sure seems to be a lot of happy users out there!!!

Ghost was the first ever Backup/Restore program that I ever used, circa 1997. In the little shop I worked in, back then, we used a very early version of Ghost, right out of New Zealand, to upgrade our customers from old and small HD's to new and bigger HD's, with NEVER a problem.
I did hundreds of disk CLONES in those days. And, possibly a few hundred more since then.
Once a month, I make a fresh CLONE of my own HD, as a part of my backup program.

Up to ver 2003 of Ghost, it would only work on Fat32 hard drives. It did not understand NTFS drives.
Symantec had bought the program, and modified it to work with NTFS drives. Ghost 11.5 was the last DOS version that you could boot up from a DOS boot disk and would actually work with an NTFS HD. Also, works with Linux or Server. Can even back up a Data drive with no OS on it at all.
Everything after that was superfluous.

It's been many years now, since I got my first copy or Ghost 11.5, but, I still use it today, booting up my PC's from a USB Flash Drive, CD, or even an SC Memory Card. And if someone wanted a copy, it's still out there on the WWW.

First thing I did after installing Windows 11/Pro/64, was to back up the C: partition with Ghost 11.5. (partition to Image)
After all these years, it's still Quick, Simple and pretty much foolproof.

If I can't fix a little Ooops, with System Restore, I resort to Restoring a Backup using Ghost.

It's not nearly as full featured a program as something like Macrium Reflect, but I still maintain a single license to the current version.

I do like the simplicity and the layout of the program. Unfortunately, the recovery media will not work on small high DPI screens which is a deal breaker for me.

Since Ghost 11.5 still works perfect with Windows 11/Pro/64, I guess I'll just continue using it. Just like I still use some hand tools, handed down to me from my grandfather. Just being OLD, does not mean it's bad.
Old saying that still rings true, "if it works, don't mess with it". ( I had to clean that one up a bit! ) :ROFLMAO:

You have a Ghost Rescue USB?

I would have figured that Ghost USB doesn't recognize your USB on that Win11 machine , but i could be wrong, esp if you upgraded from older HW.

Again: I started using Ghost in 1997, and still use it today, but in a little later version.
Version 11.5 was basically the last version that would run in DOS, being booted up from a DOS Boot Disk, either a Flash Drive, CD, SD Memory Card, or any other bootable media.

An ISO of that DOS boot disk is still floating around out there, on the WWW. I found it, again, just recently.

I use Ghost 11.5, on a bootable Flash Drive, to backup my C: drive at least once every week, and occasionally I use it to CLONE one HD to another.
No, it won't perform incremental backups and it won't run from within Windows (although, there is a version that will).
But it does one h311 of a job, backing up a C:\ partition or an entire drive.
It will back up any ver. of Windows, Linux, Server or even a data disk, or a disk with Windows on it, that can no longer boot up a PC. That's great for saving the data from a corrupted Windows HD.
I also have "Ghost Explorer" a program that can run in Windows, and can open up a Ghost Backup Image File, to extract any data files.

For running data backups, I use what I've used for the past 30 years..... XCOPY in a DOS batch file. All it takes is a click of the mouse, and in just a few seconds, the backup is done. XCOPY reads the data from my DATA Folders, on my second SSD partition, and copies it to my backup FD or Backup HD. Once a file is copied, it will not be copied again, only if it changes. And any New files are copied, just once.
But that's either beyond, or beneath the level of most users here. Sorry about that!

A big Secret to making Data Backups easier, is to collect your data files into just a few Folders, that can be easily accessed and copied to any external media.
Too many people have allowed their data files to be scattered all over their HD. Backing up all that scattered data can be a real nightmare.
Everything I want to keep backed up, is in just five folders, on the second partition of my SSD. NOT on C:\ !
It's well worth the time and effort it takes, to set up my programs that generate data files, to direct all data to those folders.
