FWIW, I also have Office 2007 but despise what MS did to the interface at that point. Also, Office 2007 doesn't like my Access database from Office XP (perhaps repairable, I haven't drilled that one yet).

So, I'd much prefer to use Office XP. My other alternative would be to install some third party software to reconfigure Office 2007 to make the UI more usable. Perhaps I could run VMWare but I'd prefer to avoid more complexity for this.

My installation ran normally. No errors or difficulties. I can start all the programs. But when I start them, they come up (looking normal) and then disappear a moment later with no error messages displayed. Access comes up and stays up, but then crashes when I click into it. I've tried a couple uninstalls, repairs. amd re-installs to no avail. The Compatibility Troubleshooter is useless as always, but you probably knew that. Manually setting compatibility for the executable to Windows 7 or XP doesn't make any difference.

Any ideas? I did search this site but found nothing... which in itself seems odd. I'm surely not the only one.

I never had an issue with Office 2000 files on later versions of Office but I never had to use Access. It was a change of file formats with Office 2007 and later that required installing a Compatibility Pack on the earlier Office 2000, XP/2002 and 2003 to enable using the newer formats which could be identified by the x added to the file extension such as .docx, xlsx, etc. [If I were to have to guess I'd say database programs caused the most compatibility problems between versions.]

since you have win 11, you can get a office 2019 for $ 9.00 online and save yourselves a lot of headaches. Just my 2 cents

You can buy the latest Microsoft Office, through a subscription of 10 dollars per month.

You can try it, one month for free.

Good solution. I've been using several such cheap licences for several years with no problems. Just ensure the licence code supplied will work with the official MS Office download site.

You cany buy a perpetual Office licence for a one off payment of $10.

Do you have a pointer to that? A little googling leaves me high and dry on actually making that happen.

FWIW, I'd still much prefer to run 2001 and I have 2007, it's the interface that's the issue. Ugh.

BUT, I'd buy a $10 license just to have the option on the newest version.

Problem!!! Office 2001 was for MacIntosh, not Windows. The Windows versions were 2000, 2002/XP, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and later. I have Office 2000 on a Win11 Notebook and 2013 on a Win11 Desktop. [I had Office 2008 on my MacBook Pro from 2010 with free upgrade to 2011]

It will work except running excel macro.

My Win11 runs three, Office97, 2007 and 2010. Office2010 dealing with excel macro. Others can be run on Office97 (word, spreadsheet, chart , , , ).

Did you have to do anything special with the install or after install? Anything special to run them? Are you on 24H2?

yes,

on 24H2.

better install in order of Office2010, 2007, last Office97.

If Office97 NOT installed last, it would request repair install (can be ignored. but every time Open it, error pops up. thou no hurt on use)

I run the whole Office Pro 2010 suite on my Win11 machine, so far no issues. I also run Visio 2010 as well. They worked fine on Win10, and so far on Win11 as well.

Welp, deinstalled, reinstalled Office XP and Office 2007 every which way. Still couldn't get Office XP to run.

I did get an error about Visual FoxPro not being installed at one point, which appears to date back to the original installs on XP. I installed MDAC 2.8 to correct that and it went away. But it didn't help the overall run-time problem.

Any suggestions besides running a VM or giving into the new interface (shudder) appreciated.

Did you install both together?? Always potentially fatal with any/every version of Ms Office since time immemorial. It confuses Windows to no end ....

It seems the cheap keys I found on Amazon / eBay are no longer offred. However, there is Office 2019 for $30 on Stack Social and Office 2021 for $20 more Search "office" | StackSocial
