I am a noob here (been doing computers since '62) so had no idea this topic was a battle zone. For years I used and loved Macrium. When they announced the free one would end I naturally(to me) did my due diligence and tried/tested a bunch and also asked at the forum I was then at.
It had to be:
Easy like Macrium to use.
Friendly to mixed linux/win boot drives.(I frequently over the past few decades have dual booted using grub)
Run under windows and stand-alone.
Widely used with excellent knowledgeable support.
I believe I only tried ones that had a free trial so I could really tell w/o spending money.
In short I chose Terabyte Image for Windows simply because it was way faster(for me!(battle zone!!!) ) . Stand-alone I could image a 60-80GB(of data) NVMe Sam 980Pro to a Sam 990Pro Nvme in about 1 min. Of course, I did not have those 2 sticks when I first tested i4w - they were perhaps half that speed, but I still was getting a much faster speed than Macrium gave me.
If this offends or angers folks, I know now that it will and have donned my flak suit and am hiding under my kipple wood computer desk.
But as I think cereberus said - It really doesn't matter WHAT you use, but, please, for the rest of us,. USE SOMETHING, and frequently. NVMe's and SSK adapter/sockets are cheap. Just do it!!! Image what you don't want to lose! Frequently!!!
be well!!!
