Clearly some people are just backing up a personal laptop or computer and others have many to maintain and servers etc. Different strokes for different folks

I've had such things as HDD failures and a few owner operator failures so for me system backups are a plus.

I also use File History

So, I gave 'Other' a vote (I could not give it a second vote)

I used to use Window 7 Backup and Restore, but no longer do.
So, I did not gave it a vote.

Yep, me too.

Thing is, there are folks who will never see the older "backup" (or any other) threads, so a new one on backup is good.

If you know everything there is to know about backup, skip the thread. It's as simple as that. For me, I want to read it because I may learn something new.

Backing up one's computer is very important, and every newbie who stumbles into ElevenForum will get another chance to figure out what they should do next . . .

The reason Macrium is so popular is that when someone has a problem, whether self-inflicted or a Macrium caused problem, the DEVs jump onto it and solve it almost within hours rather than days or weeks. I've seen it happen over on TenForums time after time. Not only do they solve problems, I've seen posts where they've reached out personally to a TF denizen and worked with him/her until the situation is resolved.

And what's really satisfying is that once a problem has been resolved, the TF denizen will post the results for the rest of us. No secrets, even when the fault lies with Macrium. And they don't mind letting us know it was their fault.

Further, although I've partially repaid Macrium by purchasing a 4-pack for my computers, those who can only afford the free version don't get constant nag screens asking them to upgrade! I would hazard a guess that a large percentage of paid Macrium users have bought the product simply because of the excellent support whether they own a paid or free version.

Safe Computing can go a long way, but that isn't the only way your computer can be compromised. I won't bother to tell you the many ways it can happen, but I will tell you that Macrium has saved my bacon three or four times!

Ahhh haha sorry! the X is the eyes and the D is the wide mouthed laughing face, Im just too lazy to actually use them properly

Oh and it doesn't mean that im on the wind up or pulling anyones leg, It sometimes does as in this case i've started world war 3 over macrium reflect with my fishing rod that was pretty much baitless and caught a boat-load of fish. Doesn't take much to start a snowballed debate on a forum does it xD! But in all seriousness, I Understand why people use it, what its for, the benefits etc. I just dont need em, The restore points are good enough for me and if not il spend the hour or two sorting my setup again big whoop. If the bullets could stop flying that'd be grand xD

Everyone can opt for the way the use or maintain their PC's. I chose not to backup but I do backup my key data,. photos etc and I have a spare drive if my SSD dies. Bottom line is we all do things differently so there's no right or wrong answer.

Like I've said, safe computing is only part of the equasion.

As to backing up one's computer, it's a personal decision.

You intentionally accused a very reputable company of wrongdoing within a poll. Not nice.

IMHO the writer of that article is an idiot. I know I'm not alone when I say that it takes me days to get a new system up and running with all of my programs and setting. Some of my programs have to be deactivated before I move them to a new system. If I don't, I have to contact support and hope they let me reactivate. The few times I had to ask to have my program reactivated they did. When I bought the desktop I'm using now I decided to start clean. Not only did it take me days but I have a few programs I couldn't move because they were a one time only install from those free software of the day sites.

I do system images weekly. The main reason is because I'm on the Dev channel on all of my devices.

I think what Wynona was referring to was you suggesting the forum was just promoting and advertisng macrium - and making the point that that's not the case and it's just very good useful software - but maybe you were just playing devil's advocate? Be nice :)
