There was a jewelry store in the Mall. It had two shadow box window displays on it's front wall.
One day, in the early 70's... there it was, the first digital watch, the Pulsar.
It cost a fortune, had a dark maroon watch crystal, and a 4 digit display for the time.
Due to the energy required to light the numbers, the time display was off by default.
There was a button on the right side, and just the slightest pressure, lit up that glorious display.
At that time it cost approx. $2,800
Every time we went to the Mall, we'd walk past that display. One time I said to my sister... "Check this out, all you need to do is press the button and the time appears". My sister replied: "All I have to do is look at mine".
My innocent heart was crushed. Since that day, there has been no technological advance that has truly impressed me.
I was never the same afterwards. Occasionally, I remind my sister of the psychological scarring, her comment caused.
