Yes, here is as good a place as any.

I'm using Win11 on one laptop 'as is' - with Start in the middle, just to see how I get on with it. Rather than removing everything, I pin what I want to Start, then click-and-drag it to the head of the list. It's easy to rearrange the icons. My only real gripe is that many of the right-click options in File Explorer that I use most often are now two clicks away in 'Show more options' (Cast to Device, Send To.., etc.).

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

Not much. I welcomed Ten with open keyboard after <shudder> Windows 8 </shudder>. Windows 7 of course will always remain a legend, the OS to beat. Eleven is rather bland, no redeeming features. Security is really interfering with using. Vista introduced that despised UAC, and everyone complained so much that 7 relaxed it some. Well Eleven made it worse. I can't even make a sub folder off of my C:'\drive. Finally persuaded it to paste. Haven't been successful in adding a subfolder yet. It let me rename a subfolder, but not the subfolder under that. Microsoft really needs to make this much easier for users.

I would like the opinion of the experts here. Microsoft has some apps for disabilities, but some are not very useful. What a lot of users would like is to be able to zoom in and out with the mouse. The files in Explorer already let us to this. The folders do not. And programs do not. The Windows "make icons and text larger" for instance, cuts some menu details off. This does not make Windows pleasant to use. Is it practical for Microsoft to make the control/mouse wheel scroll in and out everywhere? Or would the coding be too much to put in.

Have you been playing with the permissions on your C: drive? I have no such issues, either on systems with a clean install or an in-place upgrade....

This is a clean install on Vmware Workstation Pro, so didn't change anything after the new install. I notice that your print screen shows a new folder made under Documents and Settings and this I could do. It was when I was trying to install in the actual root of C:\ (and just before Program Files) that W11 didn't let me. Been doing that for several Windows versions now. This way I always know where to find my files and utility downloads. But won't do much good if I am unable to add subfolders or rename.

I have a three month old laptop with good spec's so decided to give Win11 a go through the insider channel. I was a bit dubious having read through this forum but I have to say that my experience has been great. The installation took about 20 minutes and was pain free.

The first thing that I did was to move the start button over to the left hand side then get rid of all of of the crap which appears when you click on start (right click/delete, right click delete, right click/delete, right click/delete etc etc)

I then pinned what I actually wanted to the start menu (command prompt, run, control panel, file explorer, paint, snipping tool - I'm old skool..) and have ran with that. It has all worked perfectly.

When it comes to browsers I have always used Firefox and and for me it has worked seamlessly with Win11, no problem at all.

I then loaded up a couple of games and again, everything has worked perfectly.

I'm trying to find something that I don't like about this OS and am struggling. I guess that I miss the live tiles but that's purely cosmetic.

What I do like is how snappy Win11 is compared to 10. It seems less bloated, more agile. There is nothing that I could do in Win10 that I can't do in 11 and in my eyes for a DEV version (22000.65) it is very impressive. I won't be rushing back to Win10.

Look again at the address bar of my screenshot. You can clearly see that I created a new folder in 'This PC > Windows 11 (C:)'. That is the root of the C: drive.

The 'Documents and Settings' you refer to has a blue 'shortcut' arrow on it and is in actual fact the hidden JUNCTION that is found on the root of every C:\ drive.

I'm so used to switching between machines running different Windows (XP, W7, W10 and now W11) that I hardly notice the GUI differences now, rather I see how similar they all are (with the exception of W8.1 of course). I find W11 to be so similar to W10 it is an easy adjustment to make.

The second build brought some changes, but not enough, in my opinion. Here's how the Start Menu has changed:

While it does look a bit better, I still need a possibility to get rid of that "recommended" area which for me is just empty. I would get rid of the search field as well (I don't need it there, I have the Search service disabled anyway).

The right click context menus thing, no Taskbar Toolbars, lots of mouse focus/mouse select issues, bunch of minor stuff...

As far as complex, maybe it's just a familiarity thing, stuff seems to buried deeper in sub-menus though.

Most stuff you mentioned I rarely use. But I see your point. This stuff is however about 0.0001% of all features in Windows. If even that. 😄

I voted Not Sure Yet, but at this point, I'll stick with Windows 10!

I use Skype to teach Windows to Seniors. Skype covers the taskbar when I choose to share my screen and explain what I'm doing! Therefore, I put my taskbar at the top of my screen to be able to show and tell!

Now, I cannot move my Taskbar? This is awful! This is a show stopper!

Microsoft has always given us choices in how we use Windows . . . It's as if we've suddenly lost our freedom and now have a Dictator! I don't like it one bit!

Taskbar Toolbars have been removed. I and many others use the Quick Launch Bar, and now it's no longer available. Another show stopper for me.
