No, that one's still in the system tray, as are the icons my Core Temp puts there and the one from Macrium Reflect. I can't say I understand the MS statement, I know of no icons that have gone AWOL since upgrading to 11.

Am I the only one totally unimpressed by Windows 11 so far? Not only is it not working as well as 10 for me, most of the differences in 11 are negatives so far as I'm concerned. I'm having problems finding even a single meaningful positive 11 has over 10.

The meaningful stuff is on it's way and is not yet part of the builds...we have to wait a bit longer...

I like 11,Edge and always use the 'safely remove' icon. Saved me a few times on 10 when an iso has been mounted from a USB drive and I'd forgotten. Going back to 10, now and again, seems dull to me.

Just dawned on me.... Windows already has the ARM version.

WHY cant they just implement all of their touchscreen functionalities on the ARM version and leave the desktop version alone?! or atleast give us (desktop users) the option to have the classic desktop functions/menus etc.

Because ARM will soon surpass x86_64 in every way imaginable.

Because not all touch devices are ARM based.

To me, and what I use W10 for, I see no (discernible) difference between W10/W11. I still do the "things" I did before and produce the same results? Because I have only been using W11 for 2 weeks, it is a lot harder to find where the controls/options are. Perhaps MS thinks that putting the controls/options on different pages/lists make them better? I am an insider so using W11 on my insider machine (which does not pass most requirements) will cause me to upgrade my hardware at some point to use W11 on my production machine. I plan to wait at least a year to allow MB manufactures to build hardware to take full advantage of what W11 will look like in a year. If that turns out to be the case, I will be retiring 2 machines to the "garage hall of fame", convert 1 to Linux to play with? (maybe)

I have a sneaking suspicion that what we're seeing now is pretty much what Microsoft will release late this year or early next. It wouldn't be the first time they've promised the moon and failed to deliver. But I'll wait to see if the end product merits all the money many will have to spend to get it and/or hoops they will have to jump through.

I'm not sure you're interpreting this correctly. Right now, if you install Windows 10, these "apps" will be installed by default. The first thing I do is uninstall them (together with all other "Store apps" that allow themselves to be uninstalled). If they are not installed with Windows 11, it's a huge plus from my viewpoint.

That said, this does not mean that "they are dropping Skype". In fact, I do use Skype and OneNote almost daily. I just refuse to use the "Store apps". Instead, I use the desktop programs that can be downloaded from their respective websites (OneNote is part of Office 2019, for example, while Skype is a standalone program). However, if for some reason you want to use the Store, they are still there. So there is no problem here as far as I can see.

I'm not sure what exactly is a failure here. If I right-click on a file located on the desktop, I get a two-tier menu:

The Shift-F10 shortcut allows you to call the second menu right away. So what's the failure?

I realize you might want to skip the first tier menu on the right-click. Or you might want to be able to customize that. The latter I will definitely agree with and I think we should all write a feedback about that. But other than that, I don't see a problem here.

Looking through the last couple of days of posts, I see that most people are complaining of various GUI features that are different from Windows 10. I think two things are important to keep in mind. First, Windows 11 GUI is by far not finished. In fact, the whole point of preview builds is to gather feedback and to understand which features are most important to users. Second, every Windows version starting from Windows 95 brought some change in the GUI with it. Some of these changes are welcome by most people, some - specifically, the ever diminishing customization possibilities - are downright irritating. But there is certainly no reason to expect that things will stay the same just because you are used to them.

Finally, keep in mind that people use their computers differently. Personally, I have never moved the Taskbar from the bottom and will never do it, I hate the Apple way of having it on top. I have also never used copy and paste icons, I use either Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V or drag and drop and hence I don't care how many clicks you need to make to get those icons to work. I don't use Store apps and hence I don't understand the complaint that Skype covers the whole screen - the desktop version creates a Window which I can resize any way I want. And so on, so forth. To each its own.

There's no NEED for a two tier menu. It's just stoopid.
MS is making things easier for the smart phone/ tablet types. That's fine by me.

Allow ME to turn it off though, I'm on a 30" screen, I don't need a two tier menu, and I definitely don't need added mouse clicks, for a device, I don't even use.

I spent half a day trying to turn off that two tier menu.... no joy. THAT is what bothers me. That I can't turn it OFF.

We can argue the merits of the changed GUI layout (like the two step right-click menus) and find some who like it, some who don't. I have upgraded one of my laptops from W10 to W11 (keeping all my files and apps) and have been using it almost exclusively for over a week now, doing all the tasks I would have used it for in 10. There's nothing about the new style menus I can't adapt to, and some parts I feel are an improvement.

What gets me angry and frustrated is the complete removal of a function that has worked the same way in every OS since XP and which I frequently use in W10 - being able to click-and-drag a file, hover over a running app's icon in the Taskbar and have it open so that I can drop the file into it.

Doesn't sound like much of a loss? You can open a file from the app itself, so why complain? Maybe not an issue for a single file, but try selecting multiple files and opening them all simultaneously in that running app that's on the Taskbar. Typically I would have a group of twenty or more image files that I'd want to open in my PaintShop Pro photo editor. You may have half a dozen spreadsheets you'd want to open in Excel. Imagine how much longer that would take using 'File > Open' for every single file.

I think most of the issues with W11 centre around the changed (lack of) functionality of the taskbar. I myself use a 3rd party program that relies on toolbar support, others hate not being able to reposition it. Even simple tasks like launching task manager are no longer supported.

Personally I've always preferred to have the taskbar at the bottom anyway, but yes - the new taskbar is the least 'finished' part of W11 and needs a lot more development to make it acceptable.
