Prevent Laptop from going into Hibernate Mode from Sleep Mode

I have a Dell XPS 9360 laptop running Windows 11 version 24H2. Everything runs fine with this 24H2 version except for one issue. The laptop will go into sleep mode ( as expected) when closing the lid and stay that way. However, after about 6 hours in sleep it apparently goes into hibernate mode. If I open the laptop after this period of time it takes some time to come out of hibernation. I have all the latest updates installed and my drivers are all up to date. Is there a way to set it not to hibernate even after long periods of time?

We all have different preferences, I like all my laptops, when on battery power, to sleep when I close the lid, then hibernate after 20 minutes. When plugged in I want them to stay on forever, lid closed or not (I often set a video processing program running that may take hours, so I like to close the lid until it's done).

Whatever your preferences are, the answer is to change the Advanced power settings for your Power Plan. The default for 'Hibernate after' is usually 180 minutes (three hours) for both 'on battery' and 'plugged in'.

If Hibernate after is missing, then you may need to add it.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, and 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2.

I added the Hibernate power options. I will now see if that has solved the problem. Thanks for the help.

The problem is that Sleep takes more power than Hibernate so there is a limit to how long the Sleep can last and will go to Hibernate.
You probably need to look in the Battery section in Power Options > Advanced.

e.g. on mine if the battery goes down to 5 % it will Hibernate.

Settings may vary depending on what Power plan is active. Laptop manufacturers put in their own. You can also make your own Power plan(s).

As already mentioned you can change the Close lid functionality.
