Solved Rename PC?

Currently PC is named as it was when purchased like DESK-Q2234 from dell. I'd like to name it something else more suited to other PC on my home network but wonder if that would mess things up?

No, it will not mess anything up. Go ahead and rename it.

PC name is not connected to anything in the PC configuration. You can rename it all you want.

We have Powershell scripts and Excel formulas which branch logic based upon the PC's name (maybe there's a better way, but...). We first retrieve "name" as a variable {e.g., env:computername in Powershell, Environ("COMPUTERNAME") in Excel} to do pull the name, however, so a name change wouldn't break anything. Although Drive vs PCName-specific, we also make use of environment variables to standardize paths across devices so we don't need to modify scripts / formulas based upon device.
Assuming you've taken these precautions or the use-cases are not applicable for you, there should be no issue I can think of.

WOW!! You Do recognize that this is a basic user, don't you? So why would you give such High-End advice that they would have no idea what you're talking about? I bet the Op has no idea what scripts/formulas are based on the device. Let's make it real here and help! Not making it so complicated. But simple as to help. Sorry safron: I just had to jump in here, not everyone is that complicated. This is a Help forum After All.

So far everyone has assumed you know how to do it, it's just that you're asking would it be OK.

But just in case ...
Start Menu > type "computer name" (without the ") > click > Rename this PC > type the new name you want > restart your computer.

Point taken, Lance1. I don't consider myself an "advanced" user, but would always prefer to receive information which is complete as possible. I can then choose to ignore what isn't applicable. The alternative is acting on advice which may create an issue. I didn't want to presume what the OP's environment may or may not include, so (at the risk of being pedantic) included the caveat. Additionally, I thought others might benefit.
