Solved Should I update my BIOS before 24H2 is installed

Well it says the selected file is not a proper BIOS.
I assume I was to pick the renamed file.

You were.
Is the USB stick formatted as FAT32?

No worries.
Make sure the USB stick is formatted... FAT32... then put that file on the USB stick (drag and drop).

That is important advice, I usually reformat the USB stick using FAT32 every time I do a bios update to make sure there isn't anything else hidden on the drive. That said I'm a boring old stick-in-the-mud who only does a bios update when it is necessary (system issues and/or a significant new update from the mobo manufacturer).

@Alicia J

When I download and rename your BIOS file I get this....

PB760MAX.CAP

The ASUS website I'm at calls your motherboard, this: PRIME B760M-A AX
The BIOS file I download for your board says MAX, and yours says: AAX
(maybe that's a Canada thing, but I don't think so??)

USB stick version shouldn't matter, they are all backwards compatible.

Ok it did its thing and rebooted Tina screen that lists the new version. It says before making any adjustments in the BIOS pressF5 to load factory default settingsto
Ensure smooth operation. If setting up Intel Raid, configure VMD options according to
the interface type for better compatibility. Now press 1 to enter BIOS setup.

Do I just pressF1?

I have no clue. The F1 just takes you into the BIOS, because flashing the BIOS sets everything to defaults.

BUT... I'm an AMD CPU guy... I can't help with the mysterious Intel voodoo.

You should just be able to restart the comp, and it should work.
Your memory may be set back to JEDEC defaults, I dunno.

If your case has a Restart button... just press that and see what happens.
It's no fun setting the BIOS back to defaults.

IF... for some reason it's necessary to set the BIOS back to defaults, you can do that on the EXIT tab in the BIOS.
It's called: Load Optimized Defaults

Yeah, you can do that too. either way.

Worst case scenario is that the computer doesn't boot, because of a changed setting in the BIOS.
But that's fairly easy to fix if you are familiar with how things WERE set in the BIOS.

It should be able to boot though.
The RAM settings might be changed and a few less important settings, but it should boot to Windows.

Your RAM might be running at a slower speed now.
That happens to me (on AMD CPU) when I flash the BIOS.

But I know how to set it back to the way I had it before.

Ok. I have no idea how to do that. I didn’t know where to look before.

We’ll see if I notice any difference.

Here's a really brief course on RAM settings...

When I flash the BIOS on an AMD board, it sets the RAM back to the JEDEC #6 settings.
That runs the RAM at 2133Mhz.

But my RAM is 3200Mhz so I have to enter the BIOS and set the Memory Frequency, DRAM Timings and DRAM voltage back to the 3200Mhz manufacturer's settings (also known as the XMP-3200 settings).

The free program CPU-Z can help with that...

When I flash the BIOS I end up with the "BEFORE" settings.
So to get the AFTER settings, I have to manually change them in the BIOS.

However... let's save that for another day.
Just keep checking out the pic above, till it starts to make some sense. :-)
There's no real rush. Running the RAM at slower speeds won't "damage" anything.

Now that you're a BIOS flashing expert, you can write a book like this....

How I did it.webp

OK... being as how I'm as old as the dinosaurs... I need a nap. :-)
