It really always comes down to user preference. I still use Win 7 Ultimate. I don't pay bills with it or do anything security sensitive with it but I still like it. Win XP was a huge improvement compared to Win ME and I've yet to see that sort of drastic improvement in Windows repeated. Once all the intrusive spyware, bloatware, adware, bear ware was removed Win 10 wasn't half bad either. Evidently Microsoft didn't get the hint because they sure didn't leave off all that nonsense in Win11 apart from making Cortana obsolete. Seems a shame that so many folks have to hack and butcher a brand new OS just to make it half way decent and functional. Anyway, that's just my view on the matter and I'm an old angry grampa kinda guy so I'm well on my way out to the world of obsolete as well. I like the idea of a 4790K club. Definitely one of the better chips Intel came out with IMO but then, I'm a hard core Haswell/Broadwell user so of course I would have that view.

I agree! I still have on a drive and use at times 7 Ultimate. Like you I don't have anything security sensitive on it, and it's smokes! It's so fast, thought I might have to install a scatter shield around the drive.

I have an OTVOC with 24H2 on it but this old beast I'm typing on is running 22H2 for the time present. It goes without saying that it doesn't pass the Win11 compliant check. Windows should have given people at least 10 years leeway on that but it's an old argument. Still, when one has over ten thousand clams invested in a PC that's only five years old it's a real kick in the teeth to learn one's hardware doesn't measure up because Windows doesn't give a flying rip.

I agree! If Bill would have invested some of his billions into intel and Nvidia back in the day, he would probably be a trillionaire by now.

You could probably blame all this on the kids and Apple iPhones, they started all this latest and greatest stuff. Now with the gaming, it's all out of control, about like our US Government. I was happy with my home phone and my IBM 8088.

I'm with you on this 100%. Win 8 marked the era of the Windoze tablet OS and life has never been the same since. I'm so archaic people wonder why I even bother with PCs anymore. I have never owned a cell or smart phone, still use a land line, and refuse to run WiFi in my house. My vehicle doesn't even have GPS! Hopefully things will change for you when Trump takes office. Meanwhile, up this way, we're still trying to figure out how to evict prince Justin.

I guess I never realized the Z97 Extreme 4 had a TPM header. Of course to use it "which I have no plans to" I would have to swap my fan on my CPU cooler around to the other side.

Even if you bought a module (like I did) it may not make any difference if you're thinking of running a Windoze version of a "legitimate" Win11 OS. You very likely won't be able to install an unmodified edition without the help of Rufus, which of course modifies your ISO and renders the OS for all intents and purposes, hacked. That puts you back to square one. Trust me. Already been there, done that.

I think you have a wrong concept of "modified ISO". It's probably more of "custom installer" that only skips hardware checks so you can install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. The Windows OS itself is still the same. It's just the installation prerequisites that's been skipped.

Technically the installer is part of the OS. There's definitely some modification going on there. To be fair, Microsoft also has a page (or at least had one) that will walk you through the steps to modify your registry to pretty much do the same thing to install it on non-compliant platforms. In fact, that's how I got the "genuine article" on this rig that I'm typing on. I didn't resort to any third party tweaking. But now that support for 22H2 is done . . . Muah ha ha ha! :money:

There's a customization but it is not a hack. To me if you hack an OS, you won't be able to update it through proper channels. I just restarted and installed an update for 24H2 on this 4790K build.

Hack??

Who said anything about hacking? Actually, I could list a number of web sites that feature highly modified versions of Win 11, some of which don't even require you to use an activation key but... I don't feel like getting banned today. The really nifty thing about those versions is that you can still update the operating systems via Windows Update. Perhaps I already said too much but hey, it wasn't me. I didn't put that rogue operating system on that 12 year old computer. Honest! It was the milk man!
