Ok over the last two days I've been having this problem, when I goto shutdown, I'm getting the message about task host windows and registered device,I can click shutdown anyway and the system will shutdown, but the next day I'm getting the same problem.
Now I've not changed, added or done anything to the system for ages,so why is this happening? and how do I stop it as it's becoming annoying,I've tried scannow and it come back with no problems.
Anyone know how I can stop this?

Only what should be,I've not altered it since I bought the system, only things I've installed is steam, steelseries engine and nvidia experience, all of which have been running for over a year,I always shut steam down before I shut down the system, after a quick look on Google seems few people are having this problem.

Like Dacrone asked. Next time (or now) before hitting Shutdown, open device manager and screenshoot the running apps for us.
But there'll be so many services listed, it could take 3 screenshots. I’d just use the tutorials. Quite honestly, it could be any service or anything installed causing the delay.

Those tutorials above can help.

if its TaskHost taking too long to kill processes, edit the registry key value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control > WaitToKillServiceTimeout
set value to
Code:
5000

default is like 10000 or something. i set mine at 5000

I always recommend using tutorials that are provided here. It helps to understand a process and what you’re doing. Just my opinion of course..

OK a quick update,I may have tracked down the cause, I just booted up,left it running for 30 mins then shutdown, and no problem, the difference between previous shutdown is that steam had been running, although I always make sure it's closed down before I shutdown usually a hour or so before,so I think it's something to do with steam.

Could be. Steam is a cause of many issues that I’ve read over the years. I suppose you somehow have to make sure Steam is killed before shutdown. So many apps that keep processes running in the background.

Perhaps see if Steam has an Auto Update or online connection feature of some sort, and that they are all turned off?

whenever I finish using Steam, I click on the Steam icon in the tool bar (right side of task bar) and tell it to quit - it takes up a lot of resources in the background.

Ha! I just had to fix my daughter's Dell laptop that started to exhibit the same Task Host block issue. I did the usual SFC and DISM and then disabled "fast startup". I don't know if that fixed the underlying problem, but it did allow her to restart/shut down without hitting the off button.

An assortment of "land fill, obsolete" computers all running Linux Mint 22 (at the moment).
whenever I finish using Steam, I click on the Steam icon in the tool bar (right side of task bar) and tell it to quit - it takes up a lot of resources in the background.
Thats what I always do,I always shut steam down by right click the icon bottom right and choose exit steam, have done for years, but the last few days it's thrown a wobbler!

Try this:

Regedit

Code:
Computer\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

Create a new StringValue and set it to value named "AutoEndTasks" and set its value to
Code:
1

Then try again

I would be interested to see a screenshot of your whole taskbar just before you shut down.
