There are tabs in Hard Disk Sentinel. Click the tabs to find out where the tests are. You can download a Windows live (aka WinPE) ISO or a Linux ISO and create a bootable USB flash drive. You boot from there and select Memtest. A Windows live ISO boots a Windows 10/11 system (no installation required) that includes many diagnostic tools and other utilities to troubleshoot and fix a damaged Windows computer. A very good one is Sergei Strelec's WinPE found here:

Once you download the ISO you can create a bootable USB flash drive with Rufus:

To bypass normal boot sequence and select to boot from the USB restart the computer and press F12 or F11 or F8 see your User Manual.

In your screenshot I don't see any menus. Is the image cropped? What version do you use? I use version 4.71 and from the Disk menu I select short test or long test (see picture). You can also click on the Hard Disk Test button (in circle) and select from there, but from the menu you can also select surface test and random seek test.

Hard Disk Sentinel 4.71.jpg

PS: Don't run Memtest inside Windows, it cannot test the full RAM. Download Strelec WinPE (see my previous post) and run it from there. It is the standalone version which can test the whole RAM. Running the Windows 10/11 environment from Strelec WinPE also gives you the Windows version, but as I said is of limited use since it cannot test the parts of RAM used by Windows.

sorry for all the questions and whatnot, just a bit curious on why im doing what im doingg

The computer is having unexpected shutdowns and restarts.
There were no BSOD.
The drive, RAM, overclock, temperature are being checked.

Pending Memtest86+ results plan to place the laptop in continuous safe mode for several days > report any unexpected shutdowns and restarts

If Memtest86+ has 8 or more passes without errors and there are unexpected shutdowns and restarts while in safe mode then test for unexpected shutdowns and restarts with only battery (no electrical connection).

Based on the above the laptop may need to be serviced at MSI or a local computer store.

If RAM is OK and hard disk is OK, then 99% it is not a hardware issue, it is a Windows issue. However, if it is old enough maybe the BIOS battery needs replacement. I have seen many weird issues with an old BIOS battery, even the computer would not boot at all with a dead battery. Once the BIOS battery was replaced the issues were gone.

PS: Almost forgot, a faulty PSU not giving exact voltages can also give issues. You can use a PSU tester to verify correct voltages or take your computer to a Service and ask them to test it for you. Replacing the PSU with the same or slightly higher watts is not a bad idea.

Replacing the PSU with the same or slightly higher watts is not a bad idea.
this is barely like 8 months old, definately not old battery.

what psu tester would be good?

The computer is having unexpected shutdowns and restarts.
There were no BSOD.
The drive, RAM, overclock, temperature are being checked.

Pending Memtest86+ results plan to place the laptop in continuous safe mode for several days > report any unexpected shutdowns and restarts

If Memtest86+ has 8 or more passes without errors and there are unexpected shutdowns and restarts while in safe mode then test for unexpected shutdowns and restarts with only battery (no electrical connection).

Based on the above the laptop may need to be serviced at MSI or a local computer store.
these shutdowns and restarts have been happening when i press down the power button due to crashes, and i think its because of the temperatures for sure. it doesnt happen until high usage of the laptop for prolonged periods of times.

what exactly would the memtest86+ do? would it alter anything or what or does it just scan stuff and yeah? i also cannot do it right now, its 8:40 and im not really allowed on my computer past 9 so i wont be able to do this right now, ill let you know when im free! sorry again <3

would it need to be serviced if it hasnt happened again after? if you dont mind could you try to summarise everything in simple terms because all this information is a bit overwhelming to me and i dont fully understand whats going onn !

Sterlec WinPE? is it some sort of virtual machine?

MemTest writes data to the memory (RAM), not the disk, and then verifies these data to see if RAM has faults. If the data don't match it will display an error message in red text indicating which area of RAM (address) had the problem. f the RAM is faulty, usually there is no single red text. You will see the screen start filling with red error messages. Needless to say there is no point to continue the test, just interrupt it. For modern computers with more than one memory module (two or more) you have to repeat the test, this time connecting only one module at a time to identify the faulty one. It might be that all modules are OK but a certain memory slot is faulty. To find out you must repeat the test with a single memory module at each slot. If the first slot passes, test the second, then the third and finally the fourth (for a motherboard with 4 slots).

This is a DVD (or can be made on a USB flash drive) that loads a Windows 10 or 11 system (much like Linux Live DVD that lets you try before installing) and has many diagnostic tools and utilities to repair your computer. There are tools to check hardware, to recover data from a damaged hard disk, to clone your disk to a new disk, to check for viruses and malware and others. There are even tools to remove your Windows password if you have forgotten it and you cannot login. Download it, use Rufus to create the USB and boot from it to see for yourself. Everything a computer Technician (and advanced user) needs to troubleshoot a Windows computer. When you boot it, there is an option to load the Windows 10 or 11 system, to search for your Windows system on your disk and run it (in case your bootloader is damaged) and at the bottom are some stand-alone diagnostic tools including the non-Windows version of Memtest.

Even if you use Sterlec PE, isn't it true that the PE environment is loaded into memory? I don't see how it can read and write to RAM that is holding the PE? I accept that this will only apply to a fraction of the memory.
