I use Snagit and Camtasia for large presentations. They use to offer it for free to MVPs so I got one and when I stopped kept using it. When I,m in hurry I'll use snipit but the fun of Snagit is you can take a capture, copy all and insert. It will also scroll (like Edwin mentioned) extract text from images, has bezel arrows, blur image and magnify. All great tools I use!!

Hi folks
anybody using Snip and sketch as opposed to snipping tool -- for me the snipping tool is just so simple and does what I need so I'm still using it -- what about others. I tried Snip and sketch and went straight back to Snipping Tool. - OK I know new software often needs an adjustment but it didn't really offer me anything over what I m

I actually just got a free license of another tool called "Screenshot Captor" and I am very surprised how powerful it is.
It can grab an image from any source... region, window, all desktop, fullscreen and even from webcam.
You can put a frame around the image or a ripped paper effect like I did below.
It can blur, highlight, etc. Real simple but powerful tool. It even comes with clipart library that you can drag into your screen shot.
Here is a sample I am playing around with.
The software is free to download. You can donate any amount through Paypal to get a free lifetime license or simply shoot them an email that you are not able to donate but still would like to get a lifetime license. I just tried my luck and they sent me a free license.
If you are interested, just google up "screenshot captor" and it should be on top of the search result.

SC is definitely a powerful tool. A lot of tools at DonationCoder I've used in the past, and this was one of them. I don't know if this is still true or not, but you could actually donate to the site and receive a usable license for multiple products, too.
It's one of the better sites because 1) devs listen to what users want, 2) it's donationware, not shareware, and 3) almost all of the licenses are lifetime, not limited / crippled / version specific / subscriptions.
it's been a while since I used SC, and there was one very particular reason I stopped using it - but I'll definitely have to check it out again. And a lot of the other software there.
Thanks for the reminder and heads up,
@badrobot .

How are you "repeatedly" paying for newer versions? Does the previous version suddenly stop working upon release of a new one?

In order to move to a new version. No, they never, ever crippled old versions, they were yours to use as long as you wanted, as I recall.
Thus why I'm confused on the "repeatedly" comment. Just use the current version until it no longer does what you need.
Anyway, I'm seriously considering getting the Snagit/Camtasia package since I want to get into making video tutorials.

Thus why I'm confused on the "repeatedly" comment. Just use the current version until it no longer does what you need.
Anyway, I'm seriously considering getting the Snagit/Camtasia package since I want to get into making video tutorials.
But the new features they add were some that I really wanted - like when they added scrolling captures.....I needed it then. (Yes, that was a while ago).
Not so much now.

Techsmith..., pricey stuff but worth it!
I qualify for the education deal, but that's still $200 bucks for both. I'm going to take it, but I'll wait for the 2022 release. Got burned on a software purchase before where I bought X version then 45 days later out came Y and the only way I could get the upgrade was to pay.
Anyway, I don't need the suite now so I can afford to wait. In the meantime the ole Snipping tool works for me :)

I've never used Snagit till earlier this year as a trial period. Unfortunately, I never got around to playing with it before the trial period ended (same for Camtasia), so I can't speak on them. I've have seen some videos though.

I'd say grab it! That bundle would cost me over $400.00 CAD here!
