I think the best way to describe it is that every year, they have a version named after that year and that's considered a new version one had to pay for. While all updates for the same year are free.

Their scrolling captures don't work correctly most of the time. I remember even with Win10, I had to use something else before they fixed it. The only feature I value is the convert to text feature as I got last minute notice that Ally Invest was no longer paying for the subscription for Medved Trader so I didn't want to have to manually type 1800 different symbols to a text file so I can migrate to ThinkorSwim and that feature worked well, yes it had issues with 5 symbols because it can't tell the difference between a lower case L and the number 1.

Yeah, aware of that of the difference between "upgrade" and "update" since I've explained it to others many many times.

Anyway, It's the same with JRiver Media Center or even my website program - every year that's a new version, but unless there's some gotta have feature(s) I simply skip and keep using the old until I find a need to upgrade. And as I said, it's not like to old version suddenly stops working.

That said, yeah. I'll upgrade, just not every year. That's a waste of money.

For me, a majority of software is paid for on a enterprise license for working at NASA which I guess is one of those benefits. SnagIt still has a bug where it can't do video captures smaller than a certain size or bigger than a certain size.

I went on the site for this but It looks like its from Windows XP days..and it says Windows 7 in its description. Does this work for Win 11? otherwise I am looking for a snipping tool that works. for some reason my snipping tool on the latest Release version of Win 11 has snipping tool installed and I can take a screenshot BUT, I say BUT the screenshot doesnt save anywhere..I have Uninstalled and reinstalled from the MS Store and same thing. Does anyone have any suggestions for whats going on with mine or point to a better software for Win 11?? thanks

Snagit is a great software. Ive done many scrolling shots to create pdfs of online files and never had anyissues. It can be tricky to get the smooth even scrolling down so each page comes out perfect but other then that I love that one.

It depends on your luck since there will be some versions that are broken and then it will be fixed in the next version for that year and then the new annual versions will break it again. kabbge.com works fine now but it did not a few months ago when there was the $300 cash promotion as some
things when scrolled are missing in the capture image. Hard to remember off the top of my head now which other sites has the problem. I am not talking about the automatic scrolling but rather the one where you do the panoramic capture with no limit in the direction so even with a browser, I would be capturing the non-scrolling parts before the scrolling parts begin. Some versions fixes the problem but then the next version breaks it so it's a YMMV situation.

@Edwin - No idea about ShareX but on some sites, SnagIt does not work properly when trying to do the scrolling capture while it works fine in other scrolling screenshot programs. Will post when I run into one of those sites which is not too often but when kabbage.com had the $300 cash bonus offer, there were terms and conditions which were not in the scrolling capture which would be important should there be disputes in the future should they not pay the bonus for example. ShareX apparently has another issue in Windows 11 that is reported in Feedback Hub which is not related to screenshots but it's causing a overlay on the screen that doesn't close.
