It is interesting to see others learn more about an OS (and a "build" of that OS) by tweaking, modifying, or otherwise changing it from a stock installation, and/or using a pre-built "tiny" version. You can't discount the knowledge available from this, and I appreciate the links & such to these other methods ...
If they get off in the weeds, it's not much time to reinstall and try again with a different method.
OP didn't mention, nor did some of the others trying these OS variations, but perhaps they are testing them in VM's, or on machines suitable for testing ...
With virtualization, it takes about two seconds to load one of these in a VM, and see what works and what doesn't ... there could always be something useful to the person willing to do OS testing, not to mention the additional knowledge gained.
