What is Going on With Link to Windows? Why Does it Keep Duplicating My Computer?

... anybody let me know what the latest version is, please...
I see in your last post a picture of Your Phone? Why are you messing around with it? It was replaced by Phone Link back in March 2022.

BTW, the versions I have are:
Phone Link: 1.24062.101.0
Link to Windows: 1.24062.153.0

The cache was cleared and the app was uninstalled.
The phone was rebooted afterwards.
I then switched to the Beta version of Link to Windows.

As stated in my first post , I think the BT identifiers linked to the PCs' names are tied in to the MS account as well.
So when one signs back in, all machine names remain with no way to clear them at that point.
I think this was done in order to 'easily' reconnect/re-pair.
So called 'features' in both Android & Windows look like they have been piled up one after the other without a clear plan of action or predetermined path. The almost constant updates seem to indicate a rather chaotic implementation.

See @Edwin 's accurate description of the current state of things.
So clear the bluetooth cache as well.

Thanks @Edwin for all your efforts. (y)
My scenario is a bit different and could explain the issue, but I don't know the OP's setup.

I am using the same physical machine for both Canary & Dev channels.
I go back and forth between the two OSs using Macrium images.
Each OS required a separate setup for the phone app.
It is therefore a rather unusual setup, plus I have 2 VMs for Beta and RC, the Beta using the phone app as well.
And of course, the VMs are available whether the host is Canary or Dev.
Plus VMs for Linux Arch & Linux Debian blah, blah...
2 Microsoft accounts:

Different computer name on one account (closed account) -- this computer is removed
Preferred computer name on other account (hacked account that I recovered) -- this computer shows three times

App Versions:
Windows 11 Home 23H2
Phone Link 1.24071.86.0
Cross Device Experience Host 1.24071.45.0

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE 5G
One UI 6.1
Android 14
Link to Windows 1.254062.153.0-5860608
Link to Windows Service 3.0.01.7

How did you get your phone background to show?

@Maidvelia would you post a screenshot of your phone's wallpaper. You said you can't see it in the Phone icon at the upper left in Phone Link. Is Wallpaper turned on in the Phone Link settings? If it is then Phone Link Notification area background should be same as the phone's wallpaper. All this is explained below.

This is my phone's wallpaper. I can see it when I double-click on the Phone thumbnail at the upper left of Phone Link.

wp1.jpg

The phone's wallpaper is seen in the phone thumbnail at the upper left and in the background for the Notification area.

wp2.jpg

In Phone Link's settings is a Wallpaper On/Off setting

wp3.jpg

Toggling Wallpaper Off only turns off the background for Notifications. The phone's thumbnail is unaffected.
wp4.jpg

In Phone Link you can also select a Dark Theme

DM1.jpg

As long as the wallpaper is light enough you can still see it in the notification background.

In a previous post I said the phone wallpaper should show up in 2 places. Small phone icon at upper left and notification area. I still haven't found a way to make it so it doesn't show in the small phone icon. However, I did find that if I set the Transparency effects to Off in the Windows 11 settings then I no longer saw the phone wallpaper in the Phone Link Notification area.

UPDATE:
Apparently you need to grant Link To Windows 'All Files Access".
(If it's already on, turn it off and back on again and re-connect your device)
I already knew about granting Link To Windows 'All Files Access" but didn't mention it because I looked for and couldn't find where that is set. Where is that setting?

I saw that in the Reddit post MS Phone Link App does not display wallpaper from my Samsung phone. All app permissions enabled. Anyone else facing this issue?

Where is that setting?
Feck! It's buried deep in Privacy & Security..., stumbled upon it in Search...,
... hang on, I'll see if I can find it again...
(I wish Phone's had a way to copy breadcrumbs!)

EDIT:
Settings/Security and privacy/Permission manager/Files/See more apps.../Link to Windows

I gotta be honest...,
this is pretty powerful software..., a bit glitchy in places, but, handy in more ways than I was aware of!
Sure sucks the life out of your Phone's battery though!!!

I found it "Settings > Security and privacy > Permission manager > Files and media > See more apps that can access all files > Link to Windows: On/Off"
Turning it off made no difference.

I really find Phone Link handy when a website wants to send a Code. Saves having to go get the phone.

About the battery life...when you are not using the phone you could keep it plugged into its charger :D

Hmmm..., maybe cuz it was already granted the permission? 🤷‍♂️

I still find Google Messages for Web to be quicker, but Phone Link is way more versatile.

(y) I was worried my S-View case would turn off the screen at the PC end, but, nope! (y)

Once you have all the setup bullsh*t out of the way, it's a breeze to add another device!

Damn! I can even read my e-books without going blind! (Providing I can get comfy enough!)
(I used to read 'em on my dinosaur Tablet, but that piece of junk takes about 8 weeks to boot up!!!)
