Why can' t I get rid of Office 2019


@antspants @dacrone @cheaterslick - I have, once again, tried to install from scratch following the verious methods suggested by yourselves - with no luck.
What I have discovered is 2 things:
1. The detail shown for the installed versions of Word and Excel both come up with spalsh screens indicating version 2019, and the programes are indeed the 2019 vesrions BUT if I look at the versions shown in the 'Account/About' they both contain details indicating that they are 2024.
Microsoft® Word LTSC MSO (Version 2408 Build 16.0.17932.20222) 64-bit and Microsoft® Excel® LTSC MSO (Version 2408 Build 16.0.17932.20222) 64-bit
2. There are a number of posts I have found on Microsoft forums from people with a similar problem to mine, but about changing 2021 to 2024, stating that it appears Microsoft decide which version is best to install on a pc which had a previous version installed, irrespective of the version the license key is for.
(To me that smacks of restrictive practice)

It appears there is no answer offered by MS as to how to get over the problem and no way to prevent them choosing what to install.

I don’t know why I thought you were trying to install Microsoft 365, I just reread your first post and as much as M365 is mentioned, the topic is clearly 2024 LTSC. I think I need scans of my brain.
Please link us to where it is exactly you bought the 2024 software.

Did you or did you not contact MS Support?

Just to be clear: Office 2024 and Office 2024 LTSC are two different versions of Office.

For a start re the distinction, MS Office 2024 Pro Plus, can not be bought by individuals. Office LTSC is different and there is every chance you have been sold a volume licence.

I wanted a version of Office for installation on 2 laptops that are used in different locations on different days, and in some locations there is no internet access due to lack of broadband or mobile signal. Thats what I was informed LTSC would be best suited for,
As I purchased the 3 computer version I decided to install it on a laptop which already had 2019 on it - and that's the one giving problems. The other 2 had trials of 365 that were never registered and th 2024 installed and registered on both of those perfectly.

Understood and no fault of yours at all.

Microsoft support, I believe, are the only people who can work this out for you, or not. So when you have some time, give them a try.
I believe the answers on the net just go around in circles.

I’d be interested, if you correctly backup/image your OS (so you can revert back to it’s current state); If you were to reinstall Windows and then try this software, what the results would be.

Contacting MS would be a lot easier, but if your inquisitive, a test would be interesting.

Another thing; which I will mention I personally would have reservations about, because:
A) I don’t trust a site that has to use “Genuine Software” as an ad on their page &
B) State only once that I can see, in small print, that the software is LTSC. They could of easily been open and placed that in the title of the software being sold.
To the point: they have a support chat on the page you bought the software, I would wager that they have had your issue mentioned to them a thousand times and possibly have a quick fix.

I also support what others are saying here @pewe needs to get in touch with MS directly. I suspect the issues revolve around it being a volume license. I've seen posts online re Office 2019 Professional Plus with a VL's having very similar issues to the OP.

I would try the chat on that page before I contacted Microsoft Support, only because there is a slight (if not promising) chance that Microsoft will tell you that your software product key is invalid.

Another thing you should be made aware of is that Volume licensing keys are sometimes resold. So having Office LTSC absent from your PC for any length of time, could give an invalid key response when trying to reinstall. This is common with Office pruducts bought for $30 or less, or any discount variation of Microsofts official pricing.
I realise that the page states that they are genuine partners of MS, and that they are visually referenced as partnes on the MS site, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t taking advantage of loopholes re Volume Licensing.

I don't know where the OP purchased these licenses. When I read about users like in this case with MS software having a very frustrating experience, this is why I'll only purchase licenses for all MS software direct from MS. themselves or a genuine certified partner. Even if it costs more.
