Win update to 24H2 "close-but-no-cigar"

THe only thing I see odd is the file type. Mine downloaded with a file type of "disk image file" Where did you get the iso, Tony? Media creation tool or direct MS download link? Somewhere else?

Read the highlighted text under the Options

Option One
This will be for a Windows 11 Version 24H2 build 26100.2033 ISO file with install.esd

Option Two
This will be for a Windows 11 Version 24H2 build 26100.1742 ISO file with install.wim.

You should have mounted it on your C:\ Drive and not used a USB Thumb Drive.

Nothing else so far is working, so I’d throw my 2 cents in and say to give Rufus a try.

If your PC is supported, you don’t need to use the bypass the TPM2 option. But that isn’t all that Rufus is for. It’s also just a basic media creation tool.
However even without the bypassing TPM2 option, you still have other worthwhile options to do things like create a local account, disable Bitlocker etc.

Use Rufus and the ISO Josey linked you to, to create the install media.

You won’t need to mount it, just run Setup.exe from within the USB via File Explorer.

Also, make sure you uncheck the “check for updates” during the Windows install setup process.

P.S.
You may want to download the ISO again, it may of been corrupted during the initial download process. The errors re mounting aren’t normal.

REFLECTION: The two computers that updated easily have remained stable under 24H2; they are staying there. The third computer Imanaged to nudge into 24H2 has been 'freezing' regularly, and I've decided to recover it back into 23H2 and hope that one day in the future my body can be thawed and I can live again. And computer four, the one we've been wrestling with in this thread,,, it's going to remain 23H2 until that magical future time.
